Two-year-old can't speak

Two-year-old can't speak

It happens occasionally that a baby cannot speak at the age of two. When this happens, many parents become very anxious. There are many reasons for this situation. Some are related to genetic factors. Due to the slow development of language nerves, the baby cannot speak at the age of two. Some people may be due to certain diseases. Let’s take a closer look at the reasons why a two-year-old can’t speak.

1. Language retardation caused by mild mental retardation:

(1) It is difficult to detect in the early stages. In infancy, language and motor function development may be delayed, and there are no obvious abnormalities in the development of the somatic and nervous systems.

(2) During school age, learning difficulties may gradually appear. Although language development is slightly delayed, the child is still able to use social language, take care of himself, and engage in simple labor and technical operations.

(3) The child has difficulty calculating, reading, writing, and applying abstract thinking, and lacks flexibility and is dependent on others. There are generally no physical abnormalities and the average life expectancy is close to that of normal people.

2. Language retardation caused by moderate mental retardation:

(1) Children with early-stage schizophrenia have slower development in all aspects than normal children, especially in their ability to understand and use speech.

(2) Although they can learn to speak, their articulation is unclear, their vocabulary and concepts are lacking, their speech is simple and often does not express their ideas, and they also lack abstract concepts. Their ability to discern their surroundings and their understanding of things tend to be superficial and fragmentary.

How to guide your baby to open his mouth

1. Create a language atmosphere to guide your baby to speak

From the moment of birth, babies are directly exposed to external stimuli. Good parent-child interaction is the best atmosphere for babies to learn to speak. Whether parents talk to their babies enthusiastically plays a key role in their babies' learning to speak.

2 Although the baby is often asleep in the early days, when he is awake, if the parents communicate with the baby frequently, talk to him, smile at him, and play with him, the child will gradually become familiar with the parents' words and will show great interest in the parents' language. The quality and frequency of interaction between parents and babies determines the quality of the baby's future communication skills.
