Two-year-old baby twitching while sleeping

Two-year-old baby twitching while sleeping

It is not uncommon for a two-year-old baby to twitch while sleeping. When this symptom occurs, parents become very anxious and helpless. There are many reasons for this symptom. When there is a lack of certain nutrients, such as calcium deficiency, sleep twitching is likely to occur. When a baby has a cold and a high fever, the baby is prone to convulsions while sleeping due to the sudden increase in body temperature or the continuously high body temperature.

reason

1. Calcium deficiency: Because newborns grow and develop very rapidly, their demand for calcium is very large and calcium cannot be supplemented in time.

2. Temporary functional disorder of the newborn's brain: The newborn's brain may experience temporary functional disorder, which will cause convulsions. For example, when the newborn suddenly hears a loud noise, the muscles of the whole body will tremble.

3. Abnormal metabolism in newborns: When newborns are fed with milk, the inappropriate ratio of calcium and phosphorus in milk affects the absorption of calcium, causing lower blood calcium levels and leading to hypocalcemia, which may cause neonatal convulsions. In addition, conditions such as hyponatremia, galactosemia, vitamin B6 deficiency, hypoglycemia, phenylketonuria, addiction, and certain drug poisoning may also cause convulsions in newborns.

Timely prevention of possible causes of convulsions:

Find out the causes that may easily cause your baby's convulsions, such as high fever in newborns, calcium deficiency and other causes. When a newborn has a high fever, the baby should be reduced in time to avoid convulsions. It is necessary to supplement your baby with calcium in time, and getting more sun exposure can also promote your baby's calcium absorption.

When a newborn baby has convulsions, he should be treated calmly and see a doctor immediately. Generally, convulsions will not endanger life immediately, so there is no need to panic too much. Before the doctor arrives, the following emergency measures should be taken:

(1) Lay the baby flat on the bed, with the head tilted to one side and slightly tilted back, and the neck slightly raised. Do not let the child fall to the ground, and loosen the collar.

(2) To clear the secretions in the baby’s mouth, nose, and throat and ensure that the baby can breathe smoothly, quickly pinch the Ren Zhong and He Gu points with your fingers.

(3) To prevent the child from sustaining physical injuries during violent convulsions, the child’s limbs should be pressed down, but strong pressure should never be used to avoid causing fractures.
