What to do if a child has a low fever after a high fever

In life, many children will have high fever, and most of the high fever in children is caused by inflammation in the body. If the high fever does not subside, it is likely to cause pneumonia in the child. If the pneumonia becomes more serious, it will be more troublesome to treat and the child will suffer more. Some children will have a low fever after a high fever. What should we do at this time?

Low-grade fever in children is a common symptom of many diseases. There are many causes of low-grade fever, and we must actively look for them in order to correctly diagnose and treat them. Generally, an axillary temperature of 37.5C-38C is called a low-grade fever. The causes of low-grade fever can be functional or organic, so care must be taken to differentiate them.

Children with low fever

The normal basal body temperature of a child is 36.9℃~37.5℃. Generally, when the body temperature exceeds the basal body temperature by more than 1°C, it is considered a fever.

Among them, low fever refers to body temperature fluctuating around 38°C, and high fever refers to body temperature above 39°C.

Continuous fever for more than two weeks is called long-term fever.

Children with low fever

Long-term low-grade fever means that the child's body temperature remains between 37 and 37.4°C for more than 2 weeks.

There are many diseases that can cause children to have a long-term low-grade fever. Generally speaking, some are caused by organic diseases, while others are caused by functional disorders.

Children with low fever

Among children's long-term organic low-grade fever, chronic infection is the most common. Such as children's tuberculosis, chronic pyelonephritis, chronic sinusitis, certain parasitic diseases, etc. These are all low-grade fevers caused by infectious factors, and treatment should take appropriate measures against the pathogens that cause the infection.

Children with low fever

There are also some non-infectious factors that can cause children to have a long-term low-grade fever. Such as children with anemia, malignant tumors, hyperthyroidism, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatic fever and rheumatoid disease.

Children with low fever

For these low-grade fevers that are not caused by infection, a detailed examination should be conducted first to make a clear diagnosis and treat the primary disease that causes the low-grade fever.
