Symptoms of hemorrhoids in children

Hemorrhoids are a common anorectal disease in adults. For children, if they are not properly cared for, they may also get hemorrhoids. The main reason for children to get hemorrhoids is that they do not like to exercise, and they also have poor diet, frequent constipation, etc. When children have hemorrhoids, they are generally simple internal hemorrhoids, which often cause itching in the perianal area, and are prone to various symptoms such as bloody stools.

Symptoms of hemorrhoids in children

Most internal hemorrhoids in children are simple internal hemorrhoids, and mixed hemorrhoids are rare. They are just local submucosal varicose veins in the rectum. Its symptoms are a purple-red nodule seen at the child's anus when defecating, coughing or crying. This nodule is not painful at first, but there is a sensation of itching or foreign body in the anus, so children can often be seen scratching their anus with their hands. During bowel movements, the purple-red nodule at the anus will increase in size and sometimes bleed. The blood is bright red and appears in drops or sometimes in spurts. It is generally painless. If incarceration occurs, it may be accompanied by pain.

The cause of internal hemorrhoids in children is often due to congenital weakness of the rectal venous wall, coupled with constipation. Because of constipation, the fecal mass presses on the lower end of the rectum and the anus, which obstructs the blood flow in the anal veins and causes the veins to gradually expand.

Treatments for hemorrhoids in children

In addition to congenital vascular abnormalities, the causes of this disease are often due to children sitting on the potty for too long (more than half an hour) and constipation.

No special treatment is required. Just cultivate the habit of quick bowel movements in children, with each bowel movement lasting no more than 5 minutes. If you have constipation, treat it actively. Perianal vasodilation has no effect on the development and growth of children, and there is no sign of hemorrhoids in the future. Generally, vasodilation around the anus will not cause bleeding, but occasionally it may rupture and bleed. If the amount of bleeding is heavy, you should go to the hospital to stop the bleeding.
