What to do if your three-year-old baby has urticaria

The skin disease of urticaria is actually very stubborn. Once a patient suffers from urticaria, it is not only difficult to treat, but also will recur. Especially when the environment is alternating between hot and cold, urticaria is most likely to occur. The reason for urticaria is that the patient's physique often causes allergies in daily life. So what should you do if a three-year-old baby suffers from urticaria?

The essence of urticaria is an allergic reaction. For babies, the more common allergens include ingestible allergens and inhaled allergens. Ingestible allergens are foods that babies are allergic to, such as foods containing large molecular proteins (mangoes, shrimps, etc.). Inhaled allergens are when your baby is allergic to certain substances in the air, such as dust mites, pollen, etc.

In addition to allergic factors, there are also infectious factors. Some babies develop urticaria and then come into contact with pathogenic microorganisms, such as various viruses (common ones include influenza viruses and enteroviruses), various bacteria (which may cause upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia), and intestinal parasites. Infectious causes are more common in children under 3 years of age.

The course of urticaria

First of all, one or several allergic substances (allergens) cause the baby's urticaria. Most cases of urticaria mainly present as itching of the skin and mucous membranes and maculopapular rashes. Some babies also have severe allergic reactions and damage to multiple systems. At this time, if the baby is "targeted" by the virus and gets the flu, it will aggravate the existing allergic reaction and cause further disorder of the immune system. The condition may take a turn for the worse and require immediate treatment in the hospital.

How is urticaria generally treated?

If you can find a specific allergen, the first priority is to avoid it as much as possible. Before the age of 3, the main allergens are ingestion, and the allergy rate decreases with age. The opposite is true for inhaled allergens. The allergy rate increases with age. The most common inhaled allergen is dust mites, which are related to unclean homes and surrounding environments.

Use anti-allergic drugs rationally. Commonly used anti-allergic drugs for children include cetirizine and loratadine, which are safe and have few adverse reactions. If your baby's rash is very severe or there are other complications, corticosteroids may be added.

Anti-infection treatment. If there are infectious factors during the development of urticaria, active anti-infection treatment should be given. Commonly used anti-infective drugs for babies include cephalosporin antibiotics and macrolide antibiotics, which need to be used under the guidance of a doctor.

Observe more and treat promptly

If the baby only has skin itching or maculopapular rash and no other symptoms, then parents can give the baby some anti-allergic drugs for symptomatic treatment and the baby will recover quickly. If the baby's symptoms are serious, such as fever, laryngeal edema, wheezing bronchitis, angioedema, vomiting, diarrhea, etc., he should be rushed to the hospital immediately. This indicates that the baby's allergic reaction is very serious and has spread to other systems, requiring stronger drug control, and some even require hospitalization.
