Newborn baby farts but not poops

We all know that it is very common for newborns to fart but not poop. Because newborns are just born, they are not yet used to eating their mother's breast milk. Some children may have breast milk diarrhea or breast milk bloating due to their mother's breast milk. This can easily cause newborns not to poop. If a newborn has never pooped, you should go for a check-up. So why do newborns fart but not poop?

Farting more than pooping is a common disease with many causes, which can be generally divided into two categories. One is functional constipation, which can be cured through conditioning; the other is constipation caused by congenital intestinal malformations, which cannot be cured through general conditioning and must be corrected through surgery. The vast majority of infant constipation is functional.

If a baby eats too little, there will be less residue after digestion and naturally less stool. Insufficient sugar in milk can cause dry stools. If the diet is insufficient for a long time, malnutrition will occur, the abdominal and intestinal muscles will lack strength, and the stool will not be able to be discharged, which may cause stubborn constipation. In addition, certain diseases such as malnutrition and rickets can cause intestinal dysfunction, weak or paralyzed abdominal muscles, and constipation symptoms.

Infants and young children generally have 1-2 bowel movements a day, and their stools are relatively soft. If they do not have a bowel movement for two to three days but are in other good conditions, it may be common constipation. However, if symptoms such as abdominal distension, abdominal pain, and vomiting occur, it cannot be considered as ordinary constipation and you should go to the hospital for examination in time. It is normal for young children to defecate once a day, but some children defecate once every two to three days, and their stools are soft and plentiful, which is also normal. When children suffer from constipation, their stools are dry and hard. The dry and hard stools irritate the anus and cause pain and discomfort. Over time, children become afraid of defecation and dare not force themselves to defecate. This makes the stool in the intestines drier and makes constipation symptoms more severe.

Therefore, mothers should pay attention to observation. As long as the stool is not hard and mushy, and the baby does not have symptoms such as abdominal distension, vomiting, and loss of appetite, there is no need to worry. Give the baby more water and add some pineapple juice or cabbage juice to promote intestinal peristalsis. You can also give the baby an abdominal massage to promote abdominal gastrointestinal blood circulation, which can not only make the stool smooth, but also increase the baby's appetite. In addition, breastfeeding mothers should also adjust their diet structure, eat less high-protein and high-fat foods, eat more light foods, avoid eating spicy or irritating foods, and drink more soup, which is also beneficial to the baby's normal bowel movements.

If your baby only farts and doesn't poop, it will definitely not be good for a long time. Mothers should always observe their babies and provide some care requirements to reduce the occurrence of this symptom in their babies.
