How long does it take for jaundice in children to subside?

Jaundice in children is more likely to occur in newborns. In fact, this phenomenon can be prevented. Women should be careful not to overwork during pregnancy, not to eat raw or cold food, pay attention to the cleanliness of their diet, and be careful not to eat one meal and skip the next. Do not drink alcohol or eat spicy food during pregnancy, so as to avoid jaundice in the newborn. Here we will explain how long it takes for jaundice in children to go away.

Don't be nervous. The 8th day may be the peak period recently, and the yellow color is quite strong. Generally, physiological jaundice will disappear in about 20 days. It is recommended to feed some glucose and let the baby get more sun exposure. Be careful not to make the light too strong and don't expose the eyes. Just expose the rest of the body to the sun. Generally, all newborns will have jaundice, but for most newborns, the symptoms will gradually improve in the second week after birth. For full-term babies, jaundice will basically disappear by the end of the second week.

Medically, jaundice in babies under one month old (within 28 days of birth) is called neonatal jaundice. Neonatal jaundice refers to a disease characterized by jaundice of the skin, mucous membranes and sclera due to abnormal bilirubin metabolism in the neonatal period. This disease can be divided into physiological and pathological types. Physiological jaundice appears 2 to 3 days after birth, reaches its peak on the 4th to 6th day, and disappears on the 7th to 10th day. It lasts longer in premature infants and, except for mild loss of appetite, has no other clinical symptoms. If jaundice appears within 24 hours after birth, does not subside within 2 to 3 weeks, or even continues to deepen and worsen, or reappears after subsiding, or jaundice begins to appear within one to several weeks after birth, it is pathological jaundice.

There is another issue that needs attention. If the mother has type O blood and the father has type A or type B blood, the child born after marriage will be prone to jaundice. Therefore, it is best for both husband and wife to check their blood types before delivery. If this is the case, special attention should be paid to preventing jaundice. Of course, most neonatal jaundice can be cured, so there is no need to worry too much.
