What should I do if my child's teeth are loose?

Children are naturally active, running and jumping all day long. Sometimes, if they are not handled properly, they will fall down, and at such times, their teeth can easily be loosened. Parents will feel very distressed when seeing such a situation, but they also need to consider whether the child's loose teeth are serious. If the situation is serious, they should take the child to the hospital for examination. If it is not serious, the child can rest at home.

What should I do if my child's teeth are loose?

1. If the teeth have not shifted

If the tooth is loose or the crown is broken, parents do not need to be particularly anxious, because this situation will basically not cause damage to the permanent tooth germ. It is recommended to take your child to the hospital for an X-ray. The doctor will take measures such as observation, elastic fixation or root canal treatment to preserve the deciduous teeth according to the situation.

2. If the teeth are displaced

Especially for intrusive displacement, we must pay enough attention to it. Because drilling into the root of a deciduous tooth may damage the permanent tooth germ underneath. Generally, if the intrusion length of the deciduous tooth is less than 1/2, and the X-ray shows that the permanent tooth germ is not damaged, no treatment is required for the time being, but the condition of the dental pulp should be closely observed, and timely medical treatment should be sought if discoloration, gingival abscesses, etc. occur; if the deciduous tooth is severely intruded, especially if the crown of the deciduous tooth is displaced toward the labial side and the root is displaced toward the palatal side, and the X-ray shows that the permanent tooth germ is very likely to be damaged, the deciduous tooth should be decisively extracted. If it is a dislocated tooth, it is generally recommended to extract the extremely loose deciduous teeth. For mildly dislocated teeth (<3mm), you can consider repositioning and fixation or wait for them to stabilize on their own, and then decide whether to retain them based on the recovery situation.

3. If the tooth is completely knocked out

The teeth are no longer visible in the mouth, so we first need to take dental X-rays to rule out the possibility that the teeth are completely filed into the alveolar bone. Replantation is not recommended after all deciduous teeth have been completely expelled. For children who have complete exfoliation of their deciduous teeth in childhood, X-rays should be taken at around 5 years old to examine the development of their permanent tooth germs. If abnormal eruption tendencies are found, intervention to assist eruption may be considered.

Do you need calcium supplement when your teeth become loose?

Experts point out that since calcium is an indispensable component of teeth, the calcium absorbed by our body every day must ensure the normal needs of our body. If we lack calcium, then our body will have problems. The same is true for teeth. Teeth absorb calcium from the body. If the body lacks calcium, the teeth cannot maintain their own resistance and the teeth may become loose. Therefore, calcium supplementation is necessary for loose teeth.
