Signs of delayed development in girls

Signs of delayed development in girls

The characteristics of late development in girls are very obvious. After entering puberty, their ages are roughly the same. It is easy to find out that your child's physical development is not good without comparing him or her with other girls. The most direct manifestation of late development in girls is late development of their breasts. As an important lactation organ, if it cannot develop well, it may have an impact on their future. Let’s take a look at the characteristics of late development in girls.

Female puberty usually starts from 11 to 14 years old (average is 12 years old) to 16 to 20 years old (average is around 18 years old). If a girl has not developed breasts by the age of 13, or has not experienced a bone growth spurt by the age of 15, it can be considered as late puberty.

Factors affecting delayed development

Congenital factors

The factors affecting late development can be divided into congenital factors and acquired factors:

Congenital factors:

1. Genetics. Developmental delays tend to run in families, with parents and relatives also experiencing growth and sexual development delays. More common in boys, the height spurt and onset of puberty are usually 3-4 years later than their peers;

2. Abnormal endocrine function. For example, deficiencies in hypothalamic-pituitary gonadotropin-releasing hormone and gonadotropin lead to delayed sexual development and hypoplastic sex organs, while congenital ovarian hypoplasia cannot cause breast development and menstruation, and is often accompanied by other congenital malformations.

Acquired factors

It is often related to certain diseases, such as congenital heart disease, chronic diarrhea, severe pulmonary tuberculosis, malnutrition, nutritional metabolic disorders, etc. Certain brain trauma, sequelae of encephalitis, pituitary tumors, etc. can all lead to delayed development.

Other factors

(1) Adequate and well-balanced nutrition is the material basis for the growth and development of children and adolescents, and is also an extremely important factor in ensuring their healthy growth. The younger the age, the greater the impact of nutrition. If malnutrition first leads to stagnation of weight gain or even weight loss, it will eventually affect height growth and the decline of the body's immune, endocrine, and neural regulation functions. After entering puberty, morphological, physiological and psychological changes become more rapid, and their growth rate, sexual maturity, athletic performance and learning ability are more closely related to nutritional status. The vigorous development of the whole body places higher demands on nutrition, and the supply of nutrition must adapt to the changes in the development process. Otherwise, it is easy to cause malnutrition and nutritional deficiencies, which will hinder growth and development. Improvement in dietary nutrition can significantly promote the development of adolescents.

(2) Living environment A good living environment and sanitary conditions such as plenty of sunshine, fresh air, and clean water can promote the growth and development of children. Otherwise, it will bring adverse effects. Reasonable arrangements of living system, care, education and exercise play an important role in promoting the physical and intellectual growth of children. Family warmth, parental love and good role models, as well as good school education and social education, have a profound impact on the formation of children's personality, moral character, emotional stability and the development of mental intelligence.

(III) Physical exercise: Physical exercise is an important means to promote growth and development and enhance physical fitness. Under reasonable nutritional conditions, systematic and reasonable physical exercise has a significant promoting effect on the growth and development of the body. Especially for children and adolescents, because they are in a stage of rapid growth and development, their tissues and organs have great development potential and plasticity in structure and function. Therefore, scientific physical exercise can enhance metabolism, promote the development of motor organs, and comprehensively enhance the healthy growth of the cerebral cortex and various systems and organs throughout the body.

(IV) Diseases have a significant inhibitory effect on the growth and development of children. Acute infections often cause weight loss; chronic diseases affect the growth of both weight and height; endocrine diseases often cause delayed bone growth and nervous system development, such as a lack of growth hormone leading to short stature, and a lack of thyroid hormone not only causes short stature but also brain development disorders; congenital diseases such as congenital heart disease and chondrodysplasia have a more obvious impact on physical and mental development.
