Is it okay for a seven-month-old baby to fall off the bed?

Babies who are too young have uncoordinated limb development and are too young to know the dangers and cannot walk. For example, a seven-month-old baby should be able to sit or crawl. However, unexpected situations often happen. For example, when a child wakes up, if you are not watching him/her carefully, the child will turn over and crawl on the bed. It's easy to fall off the bed if you're not paying attention. So is it okay if a seven-month-old baby falls off the bed?

What to do if your baby falls off the bed

1. Cold compress treatment

If your baby falls and hits his head and there is no bleeding but a small swelling, you should immediately apply cold compress to treat it. If the swelling is large or red, you can apply some sesame oil as an emergency measure, or apply moistened potato slices on it, which can help relieve pain and remove blood stasis.

2. Talk to your baby

For a while after the baby falls, try to talk to him and tease him to divert his excitement, and do not hold him while sleeping. If the baby falls asleep soon after crying after falling, wake him up within an hour. If he wakes up crying, then there is no problem.

3. Get plenty of rest

If your baby falls on his head, he should be observed for two days. Try to let him rest more and move less during these two days. If you remain in good spirits and have a normal appetite within two days, you can rest assured.

4. Seek medical attention promptly

If a baby starts crying immediately after falling, the possibility of brain injury is generally low. Babies are most afraid of falling on the back of their heads. If they fall face down, the danger is generally smaller and only external injuries need to be treated.

If your baby falls on his head, you should go to the hospital immediately if:

(1) Bleeding trauma on the head;

(2) The baby did not cry after falling, but was not fully conscious, semi-comatose and drowsy;

(3) Within two days after the fall, the patient suffers from repeated vomiting, excessive sleepiness, poor spirits, or severe crying;

(4) Within two days after the fall, bleeding or discharge from the nose or ears, or uneven pupils occur.

Care for your baby after he falls from the bed

1. Falling off the bed may be an inevitable thing. If it happens, don't panic too much. Don't be too hasty to pick up your baby from the ground, and don't use too much force to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries.

2. For ordinary families nowadays, most babies fall from the bed from a height of 50 to 60 centimeters at most, and the babies usually do not suffer serious injuries. Especially for children under one year old, the anterior fontanelle has not yet completely closed and there is a buffer inside the skull, so the chance of causing cerebral hemorrhage is very low.

3. Even if you fall on your head, don't always suspect that it is a concussion. A concussion is characterized by a period of loss of consciousness and awareness. If the baby remains conscious, there will be no problem. If the baby vomits, it may be caused by fright or a temporary brain concussion. Generally, it will be better after vomiting two or three times, which is different from a concussion. Even if it is a concussion, if it is mild, there will be no sequelae.

4. After the baby falls off the bed, the mother will feel extremely remorseful, but regret and complaining are useless. The important thing is to deal with the baby's situation immediately and learn from it.

5. Always pay attention to your baby's safety. Many mothers have already felt this, so there is no need to say more. This should not be taken lightly, especially when parents are sleep deprived in the morning. When leaving temporarily, be sure to build things around the bed (which cannot completely guarantee safety) or place it in a safe guardrail bed.
