What to do if your baby has a cough and choking throat

What should I do if my baby has a choking cough? This is a question many parents ask. Because babies are young, their body resistance is relatively low, and they cannot protect themselves, they are prone to coughing and sore throats. These symptoms are mainly caused by bacterial or viral infections, and sometimes allergies or aspiration can also cause this phenomenon. Let us now take a closer look at what to do if your baby has a cough and a choking throat.

Children's cough is a defensive protective movement. Any cause of acute or chronic inflammation of the respiratory tract can cause coughing. There are five main causes, including upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, pharyngitis, allergies and inhalation of foreign objects.

1. Children's cough caused by upper respiratory tract infection

If a child's upper respiratory tract is infected, the child's nasal mucosa will become inflamed. During breathing, the child will unconsciously inhale dry air, making the nasal cavity more uncomfortable and even aggravating the cough. Therefore, when the child is at home, the mother can appropriately use a humidifier, hang a wet towel, mop the floor with water, or place a basin of clean water in the room to increase the humidity of the air appropriately and reduce the irritation of the dry air to the child's nasal mucosa. If your child's cough and nasal congestion symptoms persist for a week and do not improve, you should take your child to see a doctor as soon as possible.

2. Children's cough caused by bronchitis

Children suffering from bronchitis mainly occur under 3 years old, which is also an acute upper respiratory tract infection. Children's cough caused by bronchitis mainly occurs in children around 1 year old and is common in spring and winter. Bronchitis initially irritates the upper respiratory tract, causing a dry cough in children, followed by the production of bronchial secretions, which worsens the cough. If a child's cough does not heal for a long time, he should go to the hospital for treatment and take pediatric cough suppressants prescribed by the doctor. The child should not eat food that is too sweet or too salty, otherwise it will aggravate the night cough.

3. Children's cough caused by pharyngitis

Discomfort in the pharyngeal mucosa often stimulates children to cough, which is quite severe. They will cough as soon as their throat feels itchy. In this case, parents cannot solve the problem by themselves at home. They should seek medical attention in time and ask the doctor to make a clear diagnosis and provide symptomatic treatment.

4. Allergic cough

Be careful not to let your children catch colds, and go to the hospital to consult a doctor. For babies with a family history of asthma or other allergic diseases, special attention should be paid to coughing, and they should seek medical treatment as soon as possible, get a clear diagnosis, and actively treat it to prevent it from developing into asthma.

5. Inhalation of foreign objects causes choking and coughing

After inhaling a foreign object, parents should encourage their children to cough and never use their hands to pick it out of their mouths to prevent the foreign object from getting deeper and completely blocking the airway. If nothing is coughed up and the child coughs or wheezes repeatedly, it means that the foreign body has reached the lower respiratory tract and the child should be taken to the hospital immediately to remove the foreign body in time.
