Why does the baby always sweat?

After having a baby, many new mothers will naturally pay special attention to the baby's physical condition, such as the baby's skin condition and sweating. Some mothers may find that their baby sweats a lot. Sometimes the environment is not very hot and adults rarely sweat, but the baby is sweating profusely. Many mothers must be very puzzled by this. In fact, in most cases, it is normal for babies to sweat, because the skin of newborns has a higher water content and the metabolism is more vigorous.

Whether the weather is cold or hot, mothers always find that their babies sweat a lot. After a little movement, my back becomes wet, especially when I sleep, sweat is always on my forehead.

Xiaoying reported the matter to the elderly in her family, who affirmed that the child was just weak and that she would be fine after taking some Chinese medicine.

Xiaoying was particularly conflicted. On the one hand, she felt that what the old man said might make sense. On the other hand, she found that apart from sweating, her baby had no other symptoms suggesting physical weakness. Should this be supplemented?

Yesterday, Xiaoying asked Xiaoai for help, hoping that I could help her answer the following questions~

Question 1: Why do babies sweat so much?

Compared with adults, infants and young children's skin contains more water and has a more active metabolism, so more water evaporates from the skin. Therefore, babies sweat more than adults.

Question 2: Why does the baby sweat while feeding?

In fact, many mothers have asked that when their babies are breastfeeding, a fine layer of sweat will appear on their foreheads, and they don’t know what’s going on.

This is due to the thermal effect of food. When the baby is eating and after eating, the body will produce a certain amount of heat, and he will sweat naturally. Sweating will be more obvious especially after eating high-protein foods such as breast milk, milk powder, and milk.

Therefore, Xiao Ai would like to remind all mothers that when feeding your baby, it is best to take off a layer of the baby's clothes first. If your baby sweats, wipe him/her dry in time and change him/her into dry clothes if necessary to make him/her more comfortable.

Question 3: Is it normal for babies to sweat while sleeping?

This is the question most often asked by mothers.

This phenomenon is related to the incomplete development of the baby's nervous system. The baby's ability to self-regulate cold and heat is relatively poor. Even when sleeping at night, the autonomic nervous system is still in an excited state, so the baby is prone to sweating when he just falls asleep. This phenomenon will gradually improve with age and development.

If your baby is simply sweating while sleeping and is not accompanied by other symptoms, you can rest assured.

To relieve the symptoms of sweating during sleep, mothers can help their children develop good habits. Do not let your baby fall asleep immediately after eating, and do not do strenuous activities before going to bed. This can effectively reduce sweating after falling asleep.

In addition, it is also important to dress your baby in the right amount of clothing. When you go to bed, wear a layer of close-fitting cotton underwear and a sleeping bag of the corresponding season to keep you warm enough. You can add a blanket in the second half of the night. Also remember to wipe your baby's sweat in time.

Question 4: Does the baby's excessive sweating mean that he is weak?

It is mostly normal for babies to sweat excessively, which is medically called physiological hyperhidrosis. Excessive sweating due to hot weather, intense exercise, wearing too many clothes, etc. is a normal phenomenon.

If, when the ambient temperature is suitable, or when the baby is in a quiet state, he or she also sweats excessively and is accompanied by other adverse symptoms, parents should pay attention, as this may be pathological hyperhidrosis.

Such as active rickets in infants and young children, active tuberculosis in children, hypoglycemia in children, excessive dose of antipyretics and mental factors, such as excessive excitement and fear. Some babies have endocrine diseases (such as hyperthyroidism, etc.), which can also cause pathological sweating.

However, excessive sweating is usually a secondary reflection of disease, and if the baby is ill, it usually manifests itself in other more obvious aspects. If your baby sweats all night and has obvious symptoms such as low fever, weight loss, loss of appetite, and mood changes, this may be a manifestation of tuberculosis.

Therefore, the fact that a baby loves to sweat does not indicate any health problems, nor can it be used as a criterion for judging whether the baby is lacking in this or that or has a weak constitution. Parents should not jump to conclusions.

Is it normal for babies not to sweat?

After talking about the problem of excessive sweating in babies, some mothers became even more anxious, saying that my baby is just the opposite of others and doesn't like to sweat! Is this normal?

It is normal for babies to sweat or not as long as they have no other symptoms. But there is also a rare disease called congenital ahidrosis, which is mainly caused by the lack of sweat glands due to poor development of sweat glands or genetics. There is currently no particularly effective treatment.

In fact, not sweating frequently is harmful rather than beneficial to the baby's health. If the sweat glands are blocked, an important channel for detoxification will be lost, and an important line of defense against immune disease will be lost. Therefore, from a certain perspective, babies who sweat a lot are healthier than babies who don’t sweat much. On the contrary, babies who don’t sweat much should pay more attention to allowing their bodies to detoxify in a timely manner.
