What to do if you have a baby with Down syndrome

What to do if you have a baby with Down syndrome

No one wants to have a baby with Down syndrome. Who doesn't want their baby to grow up healthily? But if the baby really happens, there is nothing you can do about it. Since it has come, you have to face it and be responsible for the baby. When you give birth to a baby with Down syndrome, you must first understand how the baby develops, and then treat it in stages according to the characteristics of the baby. This will achieve good results. So what should you do when you give birth to a baby with Down syndrome?

1. First stage treatment

There is currently no effective treatment. The best means of prevention is to terminate the pregnancy before the mother gives birth. However, if a baby with Down syndrome has already been born, parents can only cooperate with doctors to provide some rehabilitation training for the baby so that the baby can be as normal as possible.

Hearing training: From the moment your baby is born, seize the time when he is awake and use objects, language, music, and touch to strengthen sensory stimulation and promote the development of brain nerves.

Vision training: Select things with bright colors and different shapes, move them slowly in front of your baby's eyes to attract his attention, and explain to your baby what shape and color they are.

Language training: Keep talking to your child and explain everything you do to her. At the same time, repeatedly teach your baby to pronounce single sounds such as aoe.

Music training: sing to your child often and play soft music. Music can fully activate brain cells and is very beneficial to the intellectual development of children.

Touch training: Help your child with exercises and massage, and teach her to laugh while demonstrating. Learning to laugh is very important for mentally retarded children and is an important sign of brain development.

2. Second stage of treatment

After completing the first stage of training, you can start the second stage of cognitive and motor training.

Cognitive and motor training:

1. Wait until the baby's head is basically upright, and put up brightly colored posters at home. Point to the furnishings in the home, the scenery outside, and all the visible objects repeatedly to teach her to recognize them, and explain to the baby the functions of these things.

2. When the baby is about 1 and a half years old, although he cannot speak, he can basically point to the right place when you ask him where something is.

3. Third stage treatment

After completing the second phase of training, parents can observe the baby's recovery level and then proceed to the third phase of training based on the baby's specific situation.

Cultivation of learning and moral character: Every time you carry your baby up and down the stairs, count the steps one by one to cultivate her interest in numbers. In addition to going up and down stairs, there are many other methods. Parents should pay attention to cooperate with the doctor's requirements.
