The child suddenly shook while sleeping

Many parents report that their children will suddenly shake while sleeping. The movement is not large, and they will stop shaking soon and continue to sleep. Sometimes this happens several times a night. Many parents worry whether their children are having convulsions and will be very worried. This is medically called "myoclonic movement". Normally, there will only be a sudden shake, and there will be no other abnormalities in the body. This phenomenon is normal because children are still in the growth and development stage and their body functions are not yet fully developed.

When the baby is sleeping, he will startle easily, and sometimes he will wake himself up with a sudden start in his sleep.

Mothers often ask: What is the reason for this situation? Is the baby scared?

For newborn babies, this is a normal "startle response" and not a sign of being scared.

When the baby is in a light sleep state, most of the brain cells are in a dormant state, but some brain cells are still in an excited state.

Because babies' nerves are not fully developed and their muscle control ability is limited, it is inevitable that their hands, feet, and even eyelids will tremble as if they were "electrically shocked."

If the baby is shaken awake by himself or is scared to tears, the mother should try not to disturb the baby. Patting or hugging the baby can help the baby continue to sleep.

Wrapping your baby tightly in a swaddle when sleeping can effectively reduce this kind of awakening. As the baby gets older, this situation will gradually decrease, and generally it will disappear after 4 to 5 months.

Leg kicking during sleep can occur in everyone from children to the elderly and is related to muscle contraction, vascular dilation and contraction, hormone and enzyme secretion, and nerve signal conduction.

Tics that occur during sleep can generally be divided into two types: physiological and pathological. Physiological sleep twitches are a normal phenomenon that usually occurs during light sleep.

At this time, the cerebral cortex is inhibited, the higher centers have insufficient control over the subcortical centers, and the body's functional state is still in an unstable state. As the heartbeat slows down, the body temperature drops, and the breathing slows down, the muscles will relax. It is normal for the hands and feet to twitch, which is a self-adjustment of the nervous tissue.
