1. There are often prodromal symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection-induced asthma attacks, that is, cold symptoms for 1 to 2 days, such as fever, runny nose, sneezing, sore throat and cough. The symptoms are more severe in the morning and after activities. Wheezing then occurs, and the frequency of attacks increases with age, often without fever.

2. When infants and young children have asthma attacks, they often have cyanosis and nasal flaring. The prolonged exhalation is not as obvious as in older children. Wheezing can be heard by auscultating the lungs, but the wheezing is often short and low-pitched, often accompanied by bubbling sounds.

3. The severity of the children's conditions varies. Although some children have wheezing, their general condition is still good, and their appetite and growth and development are not affected. However, some children experience recurrent coughing and wheezing, with attacks occurring more than 5 to 8 times a year. They are often misdiagnosed as bronchitis or pneumonia and require intravenous infusion or hospitalization. Sometimes the wheezing lasts for a long time, up to 2 to 4 weeks, and is difficult to control.

4. Commonly used antiasthmatic drugs are not effective in treating asthma in infants and young children, and inhaled corticosteroids are often required for treatment.

5. When diagnosing asthma in infants and young children, special attention should be paid to family and personal atopic history. If there is asthma, allergic rhinitis in the family, or the child has a history of eczema, urticaria, food and drug allergies, the child's chances of developing asthma are significantly increased.

6. If infant asthma can be diagnosed early and regular and reasonable treatment is given in time, the child's condition can be well controlled. As the child grows older, his immunity improves and the number of respiratory infections gradually decreases. Most children with asthma can stop having attacks after 3 to 5 years old.
