What to do if the baby bleeds when squeezing his eyes

What to do if the baby bleeds when squeezing his eyes

Babies' bodies are generally fragile and easily affected by the outside world. After the baby is born, the umbilical cord connecting to the mother will be cut. At this time, the belly button will slowly scab over and finally recover. Some parents will find that the baby's belly button is bleeding. In this case, parents should first check whether the baby's belly button is traumatized, and then use alcohol to disinfect the bleeding area. Let's take a look at what to do if your baby's belly button bleeds?

1Step 1: Use alcohol to wipe away the blood

The navel of a 9-day-old baby is bleeding a little. Parents should first observe whether there is redness or swelling around the baby's navel. If there is just a little bleeding, it is not a big problem. Parents only need to use a cotton swab dipped in 75% ethanol (medical alcohol) to wipe off the blood from the navel.

Remark

1. The umbilical cord of a newborn baby will have a small amount of bleeding before or after it falls off, so parents don't need to be nervous.

2. If the area around the baby's umbilical cord is red and swollen, and there is heavy bleeding from the navel, it is considered to be omphalitis. It is recommended that the baby go to the nearest hospital for care.

2 Step 2: Bandage to stop bleeding

After wiping off the blood, parents can cut a small piece of gauze, fold it into 3-5 layers, wider than the baby's navel, and then use medical tape to stick the gauze on the baby's navel. If conditions permit, you can use a bandage to wrap the navel. It will usually heal after a few days.

Note: There is no need to use hemostatic drugs and do not sprinkle anti-inflammatory powder on the navel.

3 Step 3: Prevent Infection

After the baby's umbilical cord bleeding is bandaged, parents should not rush to bathe the baby in the next two days to avoid contact with water and aggravating the condition. When caring for the baby's umbilical cord, parents should also pay attention to keeping the area clean, dry and hygienic, and disinfect it with alcohol 2-3 times a day to prevent bacterial infection.

It is recommended that parents buy an umbilical cord protector for their baby to wear before the baby's navel is completely healed, so as to avoid friction from diapers and other objects.

4 How to prevent newborn baby's navel from bleeding again

1. Prevent newborn babies from crying

If a newborn baby cries incessantly, the abdominal pressure of the newborn baby will continue to rise, causing the blood vessels in the baby's umbilical cord to be incompletely open, causing bleeding in the belly button. Therefore, parents should pay special attention when taking care of their newborn babies. When the newborn baby is hungry, has poop, or feels uncomfortable, they should deal with it in time, pick up the baby and comfort him, prevent the baby from crying incessantly, and avoid bleeding again when the umbilical cord has not fallen off.

2. Keep the umbilical cord dry

The umbilical cord of a newborn baby should be kept dry before it falls off naturally. If the base of the umbilical cord is accidentally wetted during bathing, it is best for the mother to wipe the area clean with a clean cotton swab first, and then perform umbilical cord care to allow the umbilical cord to fall off as soon as possible to avoid bleeding from the belly button.

3. Avoid rubbing the umbilical cord area

When wearing diapers for newborn babies, be careful not to let the waist of the diaper be at the base of the umbilical cord. Otherwise, when the newborn baby moves, the diaper will easily rub against the base of the umbilical cord, causing the skin to break and become red, or even bleeding from the belly button.

4. Don’t apply skin cream

The umbilical cord of a newborn baby is very fragile. You must never apply creams, lotions or oils to the base of the umbilical cord to prevent the umbilical cord from drying out easily and even causing infection, which may lead to inflammation and bleeding of the newborn baby's navel.

5. Carry out disinfection on time

Before the umbilical cord of a newborn baby falls off and after it has not completely healed, parents should disinfect the navel with 75% alcohol every day. When wiping, wipe from the center of the navel base to the surrounding areas in a spiral shape. Do not rub back and forth to avoid bringing bacteria on the surrounding skin into the navel base. Be careful to avoid contact between the navel and water when bathing your newborn baby to avoid navel bleeding.
