What's wrong with a two-year-old baby coughing and vomiting?

A 2-year-old baby coughs and vomits because the child’s own resistance is very weak, and coughing and vomiting are often prone to occur during growth. The baby vomits when he coughs because there is phlegm when the baby coughs. Because the baby is still young, the phlegm cannot be spit out, so it will cause vomiting when coughing. It may also be that the baby's cough will irritate the throat, which will cause the baby to vomit reflexively. As long as the baby is in good spirits, has fun, eats and sleeps normally, parents should arrange a quiet and comfortable environment, let the baby get enough rest, drink plenty of boiled water, and adjust the diet to reduce the gastrointestinal burden.

Common diseases that cause coughing in 2-year-old babies include upper respiratory tract infection: also known as a cold, which is caused by viruses entering the human body through the nasal cavity and throat, causing inflammation of the upper respiratory tract mucosa. When children have a cold, they usually have a cough. It could also be bronchitis: it is mostly caused by the spread of upper respiratory tract infection, with an acute onset, and is mostly a dry cough at the beginning, followed by gradual discomfort such as coughing and sputum. In severe cases, hypoxia occurs due to difficulty breathing, and the lips turn bluish purple.

Pneumonia can also cause coughing and vomiting in 2-year-old children, mostly caused by upper respiratory tract infection or bronchitis. There is usually a dry cough, as well as shortness of breath, cyanosis of the lips, and flaring of the nose. Except for newborns, the fever usually reaches 39°C. There are also examples such as acute laryngitis: when viruses or bacteria pass through the throat, it can also cause throat infection. In addition to dry cough and throat pain, the most typical symptom of acute laryngitis is hoarseness or even inability to speak. A dog-like coughing sound is emitted when inhaling air, and in severe cases, a laryngeal roar may occur.

What parents need to pay attention to is that opening windows frequently for ventilation and keeping the indoor air fresh is the simplest and most effective way to prevent it. Don't over-protect, and always dress your child appropriately to keep warm. Do some outdoor activities regularly and insist on daily air baths and sun baths to enhance your physical fitness and cold resistance. During the winter and spring when respiratory diseases are prevalent, avoid taking your baby to public places where crowds gather. Do not overeat, do not eat or eat less greasy and indigestible food, and eat more vegetables and fruits.
