Can scarlet fever heal on its own?

Can scarlet fever heal on its own?

Generally, scarlet fever is not easy to heal on its own, so it still requires cooperation with treatment so that it can get better faster. In the early stages of scarlet fever, symptoms such as dizziness and nausea may appear. Fever is a very critical symptom and is often ignored. Rather than expecting it to heal on its own, it is better to actively cooperate with the treatment. It takes three weeks after recovery from scarlet fever before you can resume normal life. People with scarlet fever often need to be isolated from other people to control the spread of the disease.

Scarlet fever is an acute infectious disease caused by infection with beta-lytic streptococci that produce erythrotoxin. Its clinical characteristics are fever, pharyngitis, diffuse bright red rash all over the body, and obvious desquamation after the rash subsides. A small number of patients suffer damage to the heart, kidneys, and joints due to allergic reactions after becoming ill. Because the disease causes bright red rashes, which can form a single red rash in dense areas and look scarlet, it is called scarlet fever. Because it is easy to cause redness, swelling and ulceration in the throat, Chinese medicine also calls it "rotten throat sha" or "rotten throat red sha". This disease occurs in all seasons, but is more common in winter and spring, and is more common in school-age children. It often occurs in kindergartens and primary schools where people live together. It is transmitted by patients and healthy carriers through breathing, coughing, sneezing, talking, etc., which produce droplets that spread the bacteria through the respiratory tract.

Once a mother discovers that her child has symptoms of scarlet fever, she needs to take the child to the doctor immediately. Scarlet fever is usually treated with medication and home care, and children usually recover within two weeks.

Nursing: After the child recovers, a thorough disinfection is required. Toys and furniture should be scrubbed with soapy water or Lysol. If they cannot be scrubbed, they can be exposed to the sun outdoors for 1 to 2 hours.

Pathogen treatment in the early stages of scarlet fever can shorten the course of the disease and reduce complications. Penicillin is the first choice, with 20,000-40,000 U/kg body weight for children, divided into 2-4 times, by intramuscular injection or intravenous drip. After treatment with penicillin, 80% of children will have subsided fever within 24 hours. It takes an average of 1.1 days for throat swab culture to turn negative, and pharyngitis and rash to disappear in 4 days.

Note: You can stop taking the medicine only according to the doctor's instructions.

After scarlet fever is treated and recovered, you can go back to school three weeks later if you pass a follow-up examination and there is no possibility of recurrence.
