Scarlet fever early symptoms

Scarlet fever early symptoms

The course of scarlet fever is relatively complicated and prone to recurrence. Common symptoms include fever and sore throat. This disease is not easy to be noticed at the beginning because it has an incubation period of about five days. The onset is relatively rapid and each person's symptoms are different. If there is no relief for a long time, it may damage the internal organs. Scarlet fever has many complications, so you must cooperate well with the treatment.

Scarlet fever is an acute infectious disease caused by infection with beta-lytic streptococci that produce erythrotoxin. Its clinical characteristics are fever, pharyngitis, diffuse bright red rash all over the body, and obvious desquamation after the rash subsides. A small number of patients suffer damage to the heart, kidneys, and joints due to allergic reactions after becoming ill. Because the disease causes bright red rashes, which can form a single red rash in dense areas and look scarlet, it is called scarlet fever. Because it is easy to cause redness, swelling and ulceration in the throat, Chinese medicine also calls it "rotten throat sha" or "rotten throat red sha". This disease occurs in all seasons, but is more common in winter and spring, and is more common in school-age children. It often occurs in kindergartens and primary schools where people live together. It is transmitted by patients and healthy carriers through breathing, coughing, sneezing, talking, etc., which produce droplets that spread the bacteria through the respiratory tract.

Clinical manifestations: acute onset, fever, sore throat, headache, vomiting, swollen papillae of the tongue, yellow, rough and red tongue coating, enlarged and tender lymph nodes at the back of the neck and under the mandible, red chestnut-like rash all over the body, redness between rashes, dense and linear rash in skin folds, no rash around the lips but pale.

Complications: peritonsillar abscess; cervical lymphadenitis; sinusitis; otitis media; mastoiditis; myocarditis; endocarditis; glomerulonephritis; rheumatic fever.

Scarlet fever has an incubation period of 2 to 5 days. It has an acute onset, with fever and sore throat as early symptoms. Severe cases may have headaches and vomiting, followed by swelling of the papillae of the tongue. The tongue is white at first, and then the tongue coating turns yellow, rough, and has red prickles. At the same time, the lymph nodes at the back of the neck and under the mandible are swollen and tender. A rash appears about 24 hours after the onset of the disease. The whole body can be covered with a red chestnut-like rash. The skin between the rashes is red, and there is no normal skin. The rash is dense and linear in the folds of the skin. There is no rash around the lips, which is pale, forming a pale circle around the mouth. It usually reaches a peak in 2 days, slowly subsides after onset, and disappears completely in 2-4 days. The body temperature gradually drops, and the skin begins to peel about 7 days after the rash subsides. In mild cases, it presents bran-like exfoliation, and in severe cases, large areas of peeling are seen.
