How to clean a child's nose

How to clean a child's nose

Many mothers say that cleaning the baby's nose is a very helpless thing, because the baby is weak, the cartilage in the nose is very fragile, and the baby's nostrils are very small. If you don't master the skills, you may hurt the blood vessels inside the baby's nostrils due to excessive force, or you may send the nose mucus deep into the nostrils due to improper force. So, how should children's nose mucus be cleaned?

1. Dip a cotton swab in water

Generally speaking, babies' nasal mucus will not be very big. After the baby takes a bath and the nasal secretions are softened, parents can use a cotton swab dipped in saline or moisturizing oil to gently clean out the nasal mucus, or use tweezers or a cotton swab dipped in water to help the baby get it out.

2. Use a nasal aspirator

Generally speaking, baby's nasal mucus is not very big. In order to help the baby clean the nasal mucus faster and more directly, you can use a baby nasal aspirator available on the market. Place the baby on your thighs or on a flat surface, flatten the nasal aspirator, put it into the nostrils, slowly release the nasal aspirator, and use it repeatedly until the baby's snot is clean.

3. Induce baby to sneeze

Inducing a baby to sneeze is a more direct and quick method. Parents can use a cotton swab dipped in saline solution to drip into the baby's nose to induce the baby to sneeze, or use something more sensitive. However, this method is not always successful, and mothers need to be very patient when operating.

How to clean your baby's nose

The first step is to take your baby to a brightly lit area or use a flashlight.

The second step is to dip a cotton swab in some boiled water (after cooling) or saline solution.

The third step is to gently insert the cotton swab soaked in water into the inside of the nose and rotate it clockwise to achieve the purpose of cleaning.

Note: The cotton swabs used for babies must be sterilized at a pharmacy or baby products store. If your baby has a runny nose, it is recommended to use a nasal aspirator.
