Can children be circumcised?

The foreskin is the protective layer of the male reproductive organ, but if it is too long, it may become diseased, hide dirt inside or cause inflammation or redness and swelling. Due to the special place where the foreskin grows, many people find it difficult to talk about it, which makes the condition worse and more difficult to treat. Especially for some children, who have congenital problems, parents should pay more attention to avoid delaying the disease. So at what age can children be circumcised?

Phimosis refers to the condition in which the foreskin covers the entire glans penis when the penis is in a relaxed state. If the foreskin not only covers the entire glans penis but also has a narrow foreskin opening and cannot be turned outward, this condition is medically known as phimosis.

The foreskin covers the urethral opening, but can be turned up to expose the urethral opening and the glans penis. Boys usually

After the age of 40, the mild adhesion between the glans penis and the foreskin disappears on its own and the penis can be turned up. However, in childhood, the foreskin that is turned up often covers the urethral opening, and it is not until puberty that the glans penis gradually becomes exposed. When the penis of an adult is flaccid, the foreskin does not cover the urethral opening, and the foreskin can be turned up to reveal the coronal sulcus, which means the foreskin is of normal length. If the foreskin is too long, smegma may accumulate in the foreskin, causing balanitis. Repeated inflammation can cause the foreskin opening to shrink and adhere to the glans penis, forming phimosis. Penile cancer may be related to long-term irritation from smegma.

The foreskin opening is narrow or the foreskin is adhered to the glans penis, so that the foreskin covering the penis cannot be turned back to expose the urethral opening and glans penis. When phimosis is severe, the foreskin opening may be very narrow, sometimes accompanied by stenosis of the urethral opening, affecting urination.

Therefore, people with phimosis and prepuce that is too long should undergo surgical treatment as soon as possible. It is worth mentioning that although an excessively long foreskin has little impact on health, it may sometimes cause incarcerated phimosis due to the narrow foreskin opening, that is, the foreskin is tightly tied outside the coronal sulcus of the penis and cannot be pushed down. At this time, the foreskin should be manually repositioned as soon as possible. If the manipulation cannot be repositioned, the doctor should be asked to cut open the tight foreskin and then perform circumcision.

"Laser circumcision" is currently the best way to treat phimosis and prepuce. This treatment is an outpatient treatment and does not require hospitalization. The patient can leave after treatment and will not affect study and work. Laser circumcision has a short treatment time, less bleeding, no scars, and is painless. It is the preferred treatment method for many younger patients.

The following points should be noted after surgery:

It is best to rest in bed within one week after circumcision and avoid standing or sitting for long periods of time. Some young people are too embarrassed to ask for leave after surgery and still insist on working. Due to poor local blood circulation, this directly leads to edema in the affected area, affecting wound healing.

It is better to wear looser clothes after circumcision surgery. Generally, after the operation, the doctor will place a gauze curtain on the perineum after bandaging the wound, in order to reduce friction at the wound site.

It is normal to have mild edema at the wound within 3 to 4 days after circumcision. This is a reaction of the body caused by drugs and surgery. Note that the swelling is pink at this time.

In addition, pay attention to calming the child's emotions and avoid scratching.
