What kind of lighting is good for children's eyes?

Nowadays, we find that more and more children are suffering from myopia. In fact, children’s myopia is not necessarily related to watching TV or playing with mobile phones. Many times it may be because parents did not adjust the lighting properly and did not pay attention to protecting their children’s eyes, which will cause the children’s eyesight to decline little by little. The light should not be too glaring when sleeping at night, and pay attention to adjusting the eye-protection lighting when reading and studying.

Several ways to protect your eyesight.

1. Proper use of eyes: Myopia is related to long-term close-range eye use. You must develop good eye habits. After studying for 40 minutes, you must rest for 10 to 20 minutes to allow your eyes to get regular rest. Stop using your eyes but don't stop your brain. Close your eyes and think about the problem. Choose non-glare paper to write on.

2. Correct reading and writing posture: the desk and chair should match your height. The eyes should be about one foot away from the book, the chest should be about a fist away from the table, and the distance between the pen and the tip should be about an inch.

3. Comfortable lighting: The intensity of lighting has a significant relationship with myopia. Too much light will irritate your eyes, while too little light will cause eye fatigue. A light source with good stability, such as an incandescent lamp, should be selected. It is generally required that light enter from the left (for left-handed people, it is the opposite), so that there will be no shadows on the books or exercise books.

4. Training with reciprocating moving objects: such as ball games (table tennis, basketball, volleyball, badminton, football), kicking keys, throwing and catching objects, etc., not only can they keep fit, but also have a health-care effect on the eyes. When participating in the above sports, both eyes must be fixed on the ball (or key), which moves back and forth, sometimes far away, sometimes near, and rotates back and forth quickly, so that the eyeballs keep moving, which promotes the local blood circulation of the eyes and improves the function of the optic nerve. Eye fatigue can thus be eliminated or reduced, playing a role in preventing myopia.

5. Eye exercise training: Eye exercises are commonly included in the physical exercises during breaks in schools. The key is to make sure that each movement is performed correctly.

6. Go to an open area and look into the distance: The most natural and effective way to relax is to gaze into the distance, and the time must be equal to that of close-range eye use. In order to delay the occurrence of myopia, parents are advised to guide their children to do more outdoor activities. For example, flying a kite can help the ciliary muscles relax and rest, and it is a very good exercise for eye adjustment. In addition, watching airplanes and flying birds, observing the night sky, and counting stars can relieve eye muscle fatigue and are very beneficial for preventing myopia.

7. Fog vision therapy training: It is only effective for some people, and it mainly involves relaxation and adjustment. This method should be performed under the guidance of an ophthalmologist.

8. Eugenics and good parenting: High myopia has a clear genetic tendency. Both men and women suffering from high myopia, especially those with retinal diseases, are not suitable for reproduction. Children of people with low myopia should prevent and treat myopia early. Pregnant women who exercise more are beneficial to the normal development of the fetus's eyes and are said to reduce the possibility of astigmatism.

9. Watch TV correctly: Surveys have found that watching TV for 4.5 hours continuously can temporarily reduce a person's vision by about 30%. Over time, it is very easy to develop myopia. The popularity of television and computers will increase people's visual burden. Teenagers are in the developmental stage and should not watch TV, play video games or computers for more than 1.5 hours a day. In addition, keeping your eyes above the level of the screen is also one of the ways to prevent and treat dry eyes.
