What is the cause of the cleft corner of the child's mouth?

Cracks are actually a relatively rare condition, but their development range is relatively wide. However, this condition only occurs in the epidermis of the skin. In addition to adults, children will also have cracks at the corners of their mouths. Many people may not know why cracks at the corners of their mouths occur. So what is the cause of cracks at the corners of children's mouths?

Angular cheilitis is a type of stomatitis that is more common in children. Commonly known as "rotten mouth corners", autumn and winter are the peak seasons for angular cheilitis in children, and parents should take precautions in advance.

There is redness and blisters around the corners of the mouth, milky white erosions, cracks or scabs, accompanied by burning and pain. Opening the mouth can easily lead to bleeding, and in severe cases it can even affect eating and talking.

Reason: In winter and spring, people's sebaceous glands secrete less, and the lips and surrounding skin are prone to dryness and cracking, which can lead to the invasion of bacteria and viruses, causing bacterial stomatitis or herpetic stomatitis.

Improper diet or malnutrition. Lack of vitamin B2, vitamin C and trace element zinc in the baby's diet can cause angular cheilitis. Babies with poor gastrointestinal digestion and absorption function are especially prone to angular cheilitis if they do not consume enough green leafy vegetables.

The baby has developed bad living habits. For example, if a baby has bad habits such as licking his lips, eating snacks, and sucking his fingers, it is easy to cause angular cheilitis.

Prevention and treatment: Adjust the baby's diet, pay attention to dietary balance, and enhance nutrition. Usually, your baby should be taught to develop good habits of not being partial or picky about food. Your baby should drink plenty of water and eat more foods rich in vitamins B, C, E and zinc, such as animal liver, lean meat, eggs, milk, soy products, carrots, fresh green leafy vegetables, etc. When cooking, be careful to prevent the loss of vitamins. Do not over-wash the rice, try not to add alkali when making rice porridge or beans, wash the vegetables before cutting, and put them into the pot as soon as possible after cutting, and add a little vinegar when stir-frying.

Pay attention to keeping your baby warm. The clothes and bedding should be appropriate and not too hot or too cold.

Correct your baby's bad habits and pay attention to your baby's oral hygiene, especially in cold seasons. After meals, you should wash your baby's face and wipe his mouth in time, and apply appropriate lip balm or anti-cracking oil to keep the skin moisturized and prevent the corners of the mouth from drying out. For babies with angular cheilitis, due to the inflammatory stimulation, they often involuntarily lick the affected area with their tongue or open the scar with their hands. This can easily cause the original wound to erode and become infected, thus affecting healing. Parents must correct it in time.

For babies who have developed angular cheilitis, in addition to keeping the oral cavity clean, give the baby vitamin B2, vitamin C or antiviral drugs, and wash the affected area with warm, light salt water, and then apply Bingpengsan, watermelon frost, pearl powder or 1% iodine glycerin, 2 to 3 times a day. It usually takes 3-5 days to recover.
