What to do if the boy's urethra is red and swollen

Children's resistance in all aspects is relatively weak. For boys, redness and swelling of the urethra is one of the most common symptoms. Redness and swelling of the urethral opening of boys is generally caused by reproductive system infection, acute urethritis or chronic urethritis and other diseases. If a boy has such a problem, you must go to the hospital in time to find out the cause and then receive appropriate treatment!

1. Cause

Redness and swelling of the urethral opening is a manifestation of genitourinary system infection, and acute urethritis is the most common in men.

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethral mucosa. The causes of the disease are multifaceted, the most fundamental of which is the invasion of the urethra by pathogenic microorganisms (such as gonococci, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, Candida albicans, etc.). In addition, masturbation, smoking, drinking, wearing tight underwear, riding a bicycle for a long time, foreign objects in the urethra, etc. can reduce the resistance of the urethral mucosa and make it easy to get infected.

Purulent secretions appear in the urethra, which are mucous at first and gradually become purulent, accompanied by redness and swelling of the urethral orifice, mucosal eversion, urgency, frequency, pain, urethral stinging, mental depression, and in severe cases, chills, high fever, and difficulty urinating.

Patients with chronic urethritis will have less secretions, and symptoms such as frequent urination, painful urination, and urgency will be alleviated during non-acute attacks, accompanied only by itching or a crawling sensation, and some patients may be asymptomatic. It is often easily overlooked and misdiagnosed.

2. Symptoms

Redness and swelling of the urethral opening is a manifestation of inflammatory infection of the genitourinary system, and male urethritis is the most common in men. Redness and swelling of the urethral opening is mostly the acute inflammatory stage of urethritis. At the same time, men often experience itching, burning, and stinging in the urethra, and sometimes urgency and difficulty urinating. The urethral opening is congested or red and swollen, with serous, mucous or thin white secretions, or there is a "sticky mouth" phenomenon in the morning.

Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethral mucosa. The causes of the disease are multifaceted, the most fundamental of which is the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms into the urethra. These microorganisms mainly include gonococci, gonococci, mycoplasmas, chlamydia, Candida albicans, Trichomonas and some bacteria resident in the human body. Masturbation habits, excessive methods, smoking, drinking, wearing tight underwear, long-term cycling, horse riding, long-term indwelling catheters, foreign objects in the urethra, etc., put pressure on and damage the urethra, leading to local congestion, ischemia, and hypoxia, which reduces the resistance of the urethral mucosa and makes it easy to get infected.

3. Notes

1. Pay attention to hygiene, especially girls should wash the vulva with warm water every night to prevent infection; the buttocks and vulva of newborns should be washed promptly after defecation.

2. Change diapers and underwear frequently, and try not to wear open-crotch pants.

3. Don’t let your baby crawl or sit on the ground to play.

4. Pay attention to dietary nutrition, strengthen physical exercise, and improve disease resistance.

5. Actively treat various infectious diseases.
