What causes anemia in children?

Generally, when children have anemia, parents do not need to worry too much. Of course, they should go to the hospital for a routine check-up to see what causes the anemia. Anemia is generally caused by iron deficiency. Food therapy can improve the anemia. Of course, it is more troublesome to cure it. Eat more fruits such as red dates and wolfberries. Below I will mainly talk about the causes of anemia.

Iron deficiency anemia is caused by a lack of iron stored in the body, which reduces hemoglobin synthesis.

Common causes of iron deficiency include:

1. Congenital iron deficiency: Since the fetus stores the most iron in the first three months of life, premature birth, twins, and severe anemia in the mother will reduce the baby's iron storage.

2. Growth and development too fast: The faster the growth and development, the more weight gain, the more blood loss in the body, and the greater the need for iron, the raw material for hematopoiesis. Therefore, children who grow and develop too quickly are prone to iron deficiency.

3. Lack of iron in the diet: Because breast milk and cow's milk contain very little iron, which is not enough for the baby's growth and development, children who are only fed with breast milk without adding complementary foods are particularly prone to iron deficiency anemia.

4. Influence of disease: Certain diseases may cause iron deficiency in babies. When a baby's digestive tract is deformed or has chronic diarrhea, the iron in the stool cannot be absorbed well and anemia is likely to occur. For example, intestinal polyps, Meckel's diverticulum, hookworm disease, etc. can also cause anemia due to frequent small amounts of blood loss in the intestines.

Iron supplementation plan for babies:

1. Use medicine to supplement iron for your baby. Babies with anemia will have their appetite affected, so after discovering that their baby is anemic, it is recommended that the mother first ask a doctor to use medication to help correct the baby's anemia. And strictly follow the doctor's orders and use medication reasonably. Do not overdose on iron supplements, as this may lead to poisoning or even life-threatening conditions. It is not advisable to buy blood-enriching iron supplements for your baby without authorization.

2. Supplement iron for your baby through food. Foods with high iron content include kelp, seaweed, black fungus, mushrooms, pork liver, spinach, etc., followed by beans, animal blood, various lean meats, eggs and celery. Although plant foods are high in iron, they are not easily absorbed by the human body. Mixing plant foods with animal foods can promote the absorption of iron in plant foods. In addition, mixing several plant foods can also increase iron absorption. In addition, fresh juice containing vitamin C, such as oranges, helps promote the absorption of iron.

After the above introduction, I believe everyone has understood the main cause of anemia in children, which is the iron deficiency anemia mentioned above. After this type of anemia occurs, iron must be supplemented. Of course, iron exists in many foods. Of course, it is recommended to go to the hospital for a routine check to see what the cause is. Symptomatic treatment is the most important and most effective.
