The child always blinks hard

The child always blinks hard

Our eyes blink every few seconds, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. However, frequent blinking is not normal. In particular, some mothers may find that their children like to blink constantly recently. This situation must be taken seriously by parents. If a child always blinks hard, it may mean that the child has some discomfort in his eyes. In addition, it may be caused by bad habits, and adults need to correct the child in time.

1. Causes of frequent blinking in children

1. Eyelashes

It is mainly seen in obese infants and young children. Due to facial obesity, the lower eyelashes curl inward, causing friction and irritation to the black eyeball.

2. Viral keratitis

It often occurs after a cold and fever, and the child suddenly starts blinking frequently, which may be accompanied by red eyes, tearing, photophobia (fear of light), etc. There may also be no other eye symptoms, but examination under a slit lamp may reveal lesions infiltrated on the surface of the black eyeball.

3. Television image stimulation

This is because the TV screen flickers and changes rapidly, causing over-excitement of children's visual centers.

1. Mental stimulation

It is more common in children aged 5-13 years old. When blinking, the children often squeeze their eyes hard, or have spasms and twitches in the facial muscles, or twitches in the shoulder and abdominal muscles. Most of these children are scolded by their parents, have academic pressure, or are in a bad mood. Eye examination revealed no abnormalities.

1. The harm of blinking problem

Children's blinking problem must be treated and corrected in time, because over time even if the eye disease is cured, it may become a habitual blinking. Once this habit is formed, it is difficult to correct, especially for such a young child.

3. Treatment Methods

Eyelashes can be corrected surgically. Viral keratitis can be treated with medication. Children should be strictly prohibited from watching TV to prevent them from blinking due to stimulation from TV images. While reducing the time children watch TV, appropriately extend their sleep time. For blinking caused by mental stimulation, children should be helped to relieve psychological stress.

IV. Notice to Parents

1. Don’t scold or make fun of your children

Your scolding and teasing may very likely cause fear and inferiority in the child's young heart. After all, such a young child does not have a thorough understanding of right and wrong. If someone laughs at him when he blinks, he may think it is a very funny thing and may deliberately perform in front of you.

2. Don’t always give verbal warnings

Blinking is not the same as other bad habits. It can be corrected by rewards and punishments. At the beginning, when the child blinks, if you always tell him not to blink, it is a bad habit and looks ugly. After a long time, although the child agreed with his mouth, his eyes blinked more and more involuntarily, like a conditioned reflex. It is recommended that parents observe quietly instead and never mention the word "wink" in front of their children.
