Why is there a gurgling sound in the baby's throat?

The physical health of newborns is of great concern to many adults, but children undergo many physical changes after birth, especially some minor problems that arise from birth that make many parents very worried. Just like some babies under one month old may have a whirring sound in their throats, this situation is related to many factors. So what’s going on with the gurgling sound in the throat of a baby under one month old?

1. Throat gurgling

If it is present from birth, it is neonatal stridor, which is not obvious at birth but becomes more obvious a few weeks after birth. This is mainly due to the incomplete development of the laryngeal cartilage in newborns, which leads to softening of the laryngeal cartilage. It will usually disappear on its own between 6 months and one year old, so there is no need to worry.

2. Symptoms

The main symptoms of laryngitis are: abnormal breathing and snoring. If you listen carefully, you will find that when the baby inhales, there is a high-pitched sound like a flute in his throat, which cannot be heard when he exhales. When the baby cries and is eager to feed, the high-pitched sound is obvious, which will be reduced after the baby falls asleep. If it is accompanied by red throat, it may be pharyngitis. However, since there is no auxiliary physical examination, the diagnosis cannot be confirmed. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and symptomatic treatment.

3. Note

Hoarseness in the throat is often seen in patients with asthma. Symptoms associated with asthma include coughing, wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and coughing up sputum. The typical presentation is episodic expiratory dyspnea with wheezing. In severe cases, the patient may be forced to sit or breathe in an upright position, have a dry cough or produce large amounts of white foamy sputum, or even develop cyanosis. Asthma symptoms can occur within minutes and resolve over hours to days with the use of bronchodilators or on their own. Most patients in the early stages or with mild symptoms suffer from paroxysmal cough and chest tightness as the main symptoms. These manifestations are uncharacteristic.
