How long does it take for a baby to be in danger if he falls on his head?

Babies love sports very much and have plenty of energy every day. It seems that they are either running or jumping. Due to their activeness, they often fall on their heads. Falling on the head is the most worrying thing for parents and it is also relatively dangerous. Therefore, at this time, parents must take their babies to the hospital for examination and pay close attention to some changes in the baby.

How long does it take for a baby to be in danger if he falls on his head?

Generally, it is most likely to occur within 24 hours. Three days is an observation period. It usually takes a week to be completely safe. If you fell hard, it is recommended to get a head CT scan to determine the extent of the injury. If there is no problem with the internal blood vessels and tissues and it is just a bulge, it will heal quickly. However, if parents are unsure and very worried, they should still go to the hospital for a head CT scan. If there is no intracranial hematoma and no skull fracture, they can temporarily observe and treat the baby. Generally, they can rest assured if there is no problem after 48 hours!

Fall on the head

1. Falling off the bed may be an inevitable thing. If it happens, don't panic too much. Don't be too hasty to pick up your baby from the ground, and don't use too much force to avoid causing other unnecessary injuries. 2. If a child can cry immediately after falling, the possibility of brain injury is generally low. The most feared thing is falling on the back of the head. If you fall face down, the danger is generally smaller and only external injuries need to be treated.

3. If you fall on your head, you should go to the hospital immediately if:

1) Bleeding trauma on the head;

2) The baby did not cry after falling, but was not fully conscious, semi-comatose and drowsy;

3) Within two days after the fall, the child suffers from repeated vomiting, excessive sleepiness, poor spirits, or severe crying;

4) Within two days after the fall, bleeding or discharge from the nose or ears, or uneven pupils occur. Generally, if you fall and hit your head and cause severe concussion or intracranial hemorrhage, the symptoms will appear quickly, at the latest within 24 hours, so you should go to the hospital as soon as possible if you have symptoms.

4. For the average family nowadays, most babies who fall from the bed are only about 50 to 60 centimeters high, and they generally will not suffer serious injuries. Especially for children under one year old, the anterior fontanelle has not yet completely closed and there is a buffer inside the skull, so the chance of causing cerebral hemorrhage is very low.

5. After falling on your head, if there is no bleeding but a small swelling, you should immediately apply cold compress. If the swelling is large or red, you can apply some sesame oil as an emergency measure, or apply moistened potato slices on it, which can help relieve pain and remove blood stasis.
