The vomitus is foamy and mucous, while if it contains blood, it is a brown liquid. Usually within 1 to 2 days after birth, the vomiting will stop after the swallowed amniotic fluid and contents of the birth canal are vomited out. If there are no other complications, the child's general condition is normal, without cyanosis and choking. Mild cases do not require special treatment, while severe cases can be cured by gastric lavage with 1% sodium bicarbonate 1 to 2 times.

① The esophagus of newborns is relatively loose, the stomach capacity is small and horizontal, the pyloric sphincter is well developed but the cardiac sphincter is poorly developed, the neural regulation function of intestinal peristalsis is poor, and the abdominal cavity pressure is high. These are all anatomical and physiological reasons why newborns are prone to vomiting. ② Abnormal differentiation and development of various organs during the embryonic period, especially abnormalities of the anterior, middle and posterior intestines, can easily cause malformations of the digestive tract.

The ingested food or digestive tract secretions cannot pass through the intestines smoothly, and are discharged from the mouth in reverse, causing vomiting; ③ Stimulation during fetal birth, such as swallowing a large amount of amniotic fluid and blood, as well as the rapid changes in the internal and external environment after birth, can also easily induce vomiting in newborns;

④ The vomiting center of newborns is not fully developed, and they are easily stimulated by toxins produced by systemic inflammation or metabolic disorders, causing vomiting.
