What should I do if my child has a stuffy nose? Tips for solving children's nasal congestion

When the weather is cold or the temperature changes greatly, children are particularly prone to catching colds. Children's body resistance is relatively weak, so their health will be greatly affected after catching a cold. They are prone to symptoms such as nasal congestion and runny nose. When the nasal congestion is severe and breathing is difficult, the child will cry and the parents will definitely feel very distressed when seeing this. At this time, you can use some small tricks to solve the problem and achieve relatively good results.

Warm and wet towel for nose

If the nasal mucosa is congested and swollen due to a cold or other conditions, you can apply a warm, wet towel to the base of the nose, which can provide some relief.

Clean nasal secretions regularly

You can use a nasal aspirator to suck out the mucus from your baby's nose regularly. If you don't have a nasal aspirator, you can also use a thin cotton swab dipped in a little water and insert it into the nostril and gently rotate it to roll up the nasal secretions and drag them out with the cotton swab. Don't use too much force with either method, just be gentle. Using too much force may cause injury to the nasal cavity.

Breast milk nose drops

If the nasal congestion is caused by blocked secretions, you can drop a drop of breast milk into the baby's nasal cavity and wait for the secretions to soften and then be discharged on their own.

Massage the sides of your nose with your hands

Use warm hands to gently massage both sides of your baby's nose, from top to bottom, from the bridge of the nose to the nose wings. Press both sides of the nose wings for a while. Massaging the acupoints here is very effective in treating nasal congestion.

Foot bath with ginger and garlic slices

Boil the ginger and garlic slices in boiling water, then add some salt and vinegar to the water. When it reaches a certain temperature, you can soak your baby's feet. When the water gets cold, add more water until the baby's feet are hot and red. Then put on clean socks for the baby and keep him warm for sleep. Be careful not to burn your baby.

Absorb more warm and humid air

If conditions permit, you can use an air humidifier. If you don’t have a humidifier, you can fill the bathroom with steam and steam your baby’s nose when bathing your baby. The moist air can loosen your baby's nasal mucus and help the mucus flow out.

Drink more hot water

Although you can feed your baby some hot water from time to time, even if it's just a small sip, there are so many benefits of drinking more water that I won't list them all here. Babies who are sick or have a cold should especially drink water frequently.

Using nasal spray

Use baby-specific saline solution, spray 2 drops of salt spray into the baby's nose, the baby will sneeze, and then you can wipe the baby's nose.
