Hernia is a very common phenomenon, especially in young children. If you want to completely cure your hernia, then the only most effective way is surgery. However, the timing is also important for surgical treatment. If the best timing is not chosen, the baby may also have problems. What size of hernia is best for a baby during surgery? Let’s take a look together below. Pediatric hernia is the most common surgical disease in children. Many parents may not be unfamiliar with it, but in clinical practice, there are still many parents who are confused about how to care for children with hernia and when to choose to undergo surgery. Here I would like to elaborate on this issue. Causes of hernia There are usually two reasons for hernia: one is congenital developmental defects, and the other is acquired reasons. Hernias that occur in infancy and childhood are usually caused by congenital developmental defects. Congenital developmental defects mainly refer to developmental defects of the inguinal structures. Because the passage that constitutes the hernia - the inguinal canal is composed of three parts: the internal opening, the external opening and the passage. Under normal circumstances, the internal opening of the inguinal canal, which is directly connected to the abdominal cavity, is closed when the baby is born. Only in some babies, the residual peritoneum that wraps the descending testicles (called the processus vaginalis) is delayed or does not close at the internal opening, leaving this channel open. When a baby is born, accompanied by the first cry and subsequent crying or any activities that cause increased abdominal pressure, the internal organs in the abdominal cavity, such as the small intestine, colon and appendix, can herniate from the internal opening through the external opening of the inguinal canal and fall into the scrotum, thus forming what people call a hernia. What are the consequences of hernia? Once a hernia forms, it rarely or never goes away on its own. Instead, it could happen in several ways: 1. The hernia contents become incarcerated, which is the most painful and harmful complication for children. An incarcerated hernia usually occurs due to two factors. The first factor is that the internal opening of the hernia is small, and the herniated intestinal tube cannot be returned to the abdominal cavity by itself; the second factor is that the herniated contents are large and stay in the hernial sac for too long. After being squeezed against each other, the tissues become edematous, and the intestinal tube cannot be returned to the abdominal cavity, or there are abnormal changes in the feces in the herniated intestinal tube, which will cause incarceration. Hernia in female babies is often herniation of the ovarian appendages, and after the ovary herniates, incarceration is most likely to occur. Once the herniated tissue becomes incarcerated, intestinal necrosis and perforation may occur. Subsequently, the child will develop a series of symptoms of intestinal obstruction such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever. Of course, not every child with a hernia will develop an incarcerated hernia. Hernia is a relatively serious disease, and the baby's resistance is relatively low, so when the baby has a hernia, it is important to pay attention to it. Don't wait until the situation becomes serious before realizing the harmfulness. This is something you must pay attention to. You also need to pay attention to your diet and avoid eating foods that may cause bloating. |
