What to do if your newborn has chapped lips

What to do if your newborn has chapped lips

In autumn and winter, the weather is relatively dry, and newborns are prone to chapped lips. At this time, it is necessary to replenish water in time and give the child more warm water. If you need to go out, it is best to wear a mask. In addition, applying some lipstick appropriately is also good for the child. This will help prevent chapped lips. Of course, if the chapped lips are more serious, you should also understand whether the child is lacking in vitamins.

1. Feed more warm water:

Feed your baby warm water every day, in small amounts and multiple times, to replenish the body with water in time. Babies are mostly playful and usually don’t want to drink water unless they are very thirsty. Mothers must give their babies water at any time; they should also be fed water after drinking milk powder. The milk powder can be diluted a little, and breastfeeding should also be fed with water. This can prevent your baby's skin from drying out and lips from cracking during dry seasons. You can also let your baby drink more juice.

2. Wear a mask when going out:

When going out in cold and windy weather or sending your baby to school in the morning, you should put a mask on your baby to protect his lips and face from external factors. When the weather is too cold, try to avoid your baby going out to avoid being exposed to the wind and catching a cold, which will make the skin drier.

3. Apply lipstick:

In dry weather, children will lick their lips from time to time due to lack of water, trying to moisturize their dry lips, but this often has the opposite effect, and the more they lick their lips, the drier they become. When a mother sees that her child has dry lips, she should apply lip balm to the child in time and tell him not to lick his lips with his tongue. Wash your baby's face with warm water every morning and evening, apply moisturizing moisturizer after washing, and apply baby lip balm on the lips. Also reapply lipstick after eating. Mothers must be patient to protect their baby's delicate skin.

4. Dietary supplements:

If the skin and lips are dehydrated, you need to supplement vitamins C and B2. These vitamins can be absorbed from food. Mothers should give their babies some fresh vegetables and fruits every day, such as: pears, cucumbers, eggplants, carrots, apples, bananas, dragon fruit, tomatoes, pumpkins, eggs, etc. Do not feed your baby too many hot foods such as peppers, garlic, onions, oranges, dog meat, longans, etc. These foods can easily cause inflammation and constipation. Pay attention to a light diet and less salt. If the food is too salty, the baby will easily become thirsty and it will cause dry lips.

5. Maintain indoor humidity:

The weather is dry in winter, so you should pay attention to maintaining indoor humidity, especially in air-conditioned and heated rooms. The air in such houses is very dry. You can put a basin of water or a humidifier in the room to alleviate the humidity of the indoor air. This will not only prevent your baby's skin from drying out, but also keep your baby's nasal mucosa moist, making the respiratory system cleaner, and your baby will not breathe through his mouth and cause chapped lips.
