Baby's fingers are fleshy and prone to wrinkles

Baby's fingers are fleshy and prone to wrinkles

The baby's fingers are chubby and very cute. We know that the baby's subcutaneous fat is very thin and the epidermis appears wrinkled. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. As a parent, don't worry. Generally speaking, as the child gradually develops well and the weight gradually increases, the wrinkles will gradually disappear. When caring for the baby's skin, you must understand the characteristics of the baby's skin to avoid allergies and accidental skin damage.

Baby skin characteristics

1. Thin and easy to damage

The top layer of a baby's skin is made up of a single-cell stratum corneum, which contains a small amount of fiber and lacks elasticity. Its thickness is only 1/10 of that of an adult. In addition, because babies have less subcutaneous fat, they are more likely to lose water and their skin usually appears drier. Therefore, they are easily penetrated and damaged by toxic or irritating substances from the outside world, and have no ability to resist drying out. If the mother does not take good care of the baby, the baby's skin will be damaged, causing allergies and redness and swelling.

2. Less lipid and easy to dry

Lipids are essential for maintaining the moisture balance of human skin. Infants and young children have less skin fat and are prone to moisture loss, so their skin is drier and often peels and cracks.

3. Large area and weight ratio

There are certainly differences between children's and adults' skin, and this set of data can illustrate this. Generally speaking, the ratio of skin area to body weight for infants and young children is about 500:1, while for adults it is 270:1. This shows that the baby's skin is twice as large as that of an adult. The skin is larger in proportion, the skin fat increases accordingly, and it absorbs more chemicals such as toiletries. If the toiletries are toxic or irritating, your baby is likely to have skin allergies.

4. Low resistance

The low level of skin development makes the baby's immune system weak and they do not have the ability to resist bacteria and viruses like adults. In order to keep your baby's skin moisturized, smooth and elastic, it can only be protected by the acidic skin film on the top layer of the skin. Without this protective film, the skin is easily invaded by bacteria, resulting in allergic symptoms such as rashes, erythema, and blisters.

5. Thin pigment layer

Babies have less melanin in their skin and weaker resistance to ultraviolet rays, so they cannot be exposed to the sun for a long time. Once exposed to the sun for a long time, the baby is prone to sunburn and peeling, so when going out, you must provide sun protection for your baby and prepare sun hats, umbrellas, etc.

6. Poor ability to regulate body temperature

The blood vessels in babies' sweat glands are not fully developed, so it is impossible for them to dissipate heat through the expansion of blood vessels on the surface of the skin. They can only dissipate heat through sweating. Once the sweat ducts are blocked, uncomfortable symptoms such as prickly heat will appear.

7. Immature tear glands

The baby's tear glands are underdeveloped, the tear production is very low, and they rarely blink, so try to avoid external stimulation of the baby's eyes.
