Causes of white matter disease in children

I believe that everyone is not too familiar with diseases such as childhood white matter disease. Childhood white matter disease is not a common disease. However, due to the great harm of childhood white matter disease, it is still necessary for us to know more about childhood white matter disease. This will help us help children prevent this disease in daily life. Let us analyze the causes of childhood white matter disease below.

White matter disease is a group of demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system whose specific etiology is still unclear. It can be a secondary manifestation of neurological diseases such as infection, poisoning, degeneration, trauma, infarction, etc. The main suspected causes include:

1. Genetic factors: Among white European and American multiple sclerosis patients, many are positive for HLA-A3, -B7 and -DW2 antigens; and patients with metachromatic leukodystrophy have an autosomal recessive genetic disease.

2. Human geographical factors: Multiple sclerosis is more common in cold temperate zones and less common in tropical zones. Europeans have a high incidence rate, while Orientals and Africans have a lower incidence rate;

3. Infectious factors: Measles virus, herpes virus and HIV virus are suspected to be related to multiple sclerosis; JC virus of the Papovaviridae family and SV-40 (Simian Virus) have been proven to be the pathogens of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy; the medical community generally recognizes that subacute sclerosing panencephalitis is caused by measles virus.

4. Poisoning: White matter disease caused by a variety of toxic factors include cranial irradiation; drug treatment, such as certain anti-tumor drugs, antibiotics and immune preparations; drug abuse, such as toluene, ethanol, heroin, etc.; and environmental toxins.

5. Vascular diseases: They are the most common in adults (especially the elderly), and clinically they often have a history of hypertension and arteriosclerosis, accompanied by repeated multiple infarctions and cerebral atrophy.

6. Adrenoleukodystrophy: It is most common in children and more common in men aged 20 to 30 in adults. It can cause adrenal insufficiency, sexual dysfunction, cerebellar ataxia and intellectual impairment.

In the above article, we introduced a relatively rare symptom, that is, childhood white matter disease. We know that childhood white matter disease is very harmful, so we must pay attention to this symptom. The above article gives us a detailed introduction to the cause of childhood white matter disease. I believe everyone has understood it.
