How to treat bedwetting in children

How to treat bedwetting in children

Bedwetting is a common phenomenon in childhood, also known as enuresis, which is mainly caused by urination disorders. If it occurs occasionally, parents should not be too anxious and no treatment is needed. However, if bedwetting occurs frequently, it may be that the child has a urinary tract infection or poor urine reflux, which is an important relationship. At this time, timely treatment should be carried out and emphasis should be placed on maintenance.

1. Children over 5 years old should be treated

First, we recommend that children over 5 years old who still wet the bed more than twice a week should receive treatment if their parents have a strong desire to seek medical treatment. However, treatment should start with bladder training and water control before bedtime, and drug treatment should be secondary.

2. Nocturnal urination alarm training

Secondly, for the training of nocturnal urination alarms, parents with strong motivation for treatment and sufficient instructions and explanations must be given to the children. Although the cure rate is relatively high, after actual use, parents are often unable to cooperate with continuous training, so it is not widely used clinically.

3. Prevent colds

Secondly, children have weak spleen and stomach. They should not eat cold food frequently, as they are prone to lung and stomach diseases. Chinese medicine says that children should be "30% cold and 30% hungry", that is, they should not be dressed too warmly, because children are pure yang bodies. If you dress them too much, they will be hot when playing, and when you take off your clothes, they will have to alternate between cold and heat, and they will not be able to adjust, and then they will get sick. It is best to drink some porridge every day, such as millet porridge, pumpkin and sweet potato porridge, yam and lotus seed porridge, etc. These are good for replenishing qi and strengthening the spleen.

4. Start with diet

In addition, you also need to start with the child’s diet. Don’t let the child eat too greasy food, and don’t let the child eat frozen food indiscriminately. Parents should help their children develop good work and rest and eating habits to avoid being overly tired and sleeping too deeply at night. Try to avoid eating liquid foods, porridge, noodle soup, etc. for dinner, drink less water and beverages, and put less salt in meals.

5. The role of daily care is also very important.

Parents must pay attention to not being overly tired during the day, going to bed at 9 pm, and waking up their children to urinate two hours after falling asleep. Most children with enuresis have sleep-wake mechanism disorders, so they must be woken up at night to urinate on their own.
