Daily precautions to prevent tooth decay in children

Teeth are our organs for chewing food and play an indispensable role in the human body. Children usually do not pay attention to dental hygiene, which leads to tooth decay. Tooth decay will cause difficulty in chewing for children, making them unwilling to eat, affecting their physical growth. Tooth decay can also cause viruses to grow in the mouth and infect them with many other diseases. Tooth decay has many harmful effects, so we must focus on preventing it.

Daily precautions to prevent tooth decay in children:

1. Develop good feeding habits from an early age:

After feeding your child each time, promptly remove food residues with a finger toothbrush (a toothbrush that is put on an adult's finger to help children brush their teeth) or gauze, and massage the gums. Also, be careful not to add sugar to the milk before bedtime, only give plain water.

2. Pay attention to oral hygiene from an early age:

This is the key to preventing tooth decay. Develop the habit of brushing your teeth in the morning, noon and evening, brushing your teeth effectively, and rinsing your mouth after meals from an early age. Choose fluoride toothpaste and children's toothbrushes, and teach children the correct way to brush their teeth. Parents should set an example, pay attention to teaching by words and deeds, and attach great importance to dental health in their minds.

3. Correct children’s bad habits:

Young children have poor self-discipline, and some will unconsciously bite their fingers, suck their lips, lick their tongues, breathe with their mouths open, chew on one side, etc. These habits can cause dental deformities in children. Once discovered, parents should correct it in time.

4. Develop a reasonable structure:

Regularly eating different types of food such as fruits, dairy products, grains, vegetables, meat, eggs and other foods rich in vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, and fluoride, and eating less high-sugar foods, and a balanced diet will help children's dental health.

5. Pit and fissure sealants to prevent caries:

When a child's teeth erupt, pits, fissures and cracks appear in some parts of the teeth, which are prone to tooth decay. You can ask a dentist to apply pit and fissure sealants on the tooth surface to protect the teeth. After the material solidifies, it can remain in the pits, fissures and cracks for a long time, blocking bacterial erosion. It is an effective way to prevent tooth decay.

6. Visit the dentist regularly and become friends with the dentist:

Take your child to the dentist for an oral check-up every six months. Don’t wait until your teeth hurt. If you see the dentist regularly and it doesn’t hurt every time, then your child will not be afraid of the dentist, and it will be beneficial to your child throughout his or her life!
