What is normal vision for children? Experts introduce authoritative answers

When a baby is just born, his vision is usually relatively low. As the child continues to grow, his vision will continue to increase. Therefore, children of different ages have different vision, and the normal values are naturally different. So what is the normal value for children's vision?

1. According to the characteristics of children's vision development, the vision of a 4-year-old child can generally reach about 0.8, and normally not less than 0.6. Although the child's vision is 0.6, which is not lower than the lower limit of normal vision for children of this age group, it can be said to be normal, but it is still a little worse than 0.8. Recently, I found that the child always unconsciously leans forward to see things. Therefore, it is recommended to take the child to the hospital for an eye test to see if he has early myopia.

2. When a child is just born, he or she is generally in a hyperopic refractive state of 2.0-4.0D. Later, as the infant grows and develops, the eyeball becomes larger, the eye axis becomes longer, the corneal curvature increases, and gradually develops towards emmetropia. When a child is 1 month old, his vision is light perception; at 3 months old, it is 0.02, which means he can track moving objects in front of his eyes; at 1 year old, it is 0.2; at 2 years old, it is 0.4; at 3 years old, it is 0.6, which means he can understand the eye chart and use the eye chart to check his vision; at 4 years old, it is 0.8; at 5 years old, it can reach 1.0, which is adult vision. If it cannot be reached, you should go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible; at 6 years old, the vision can reach 1.2.

3. Different standards should be used to judge whether vision is abnormal for children of different ages. Generally speaking, the lower limit of normal vision for 3-year-old children is 0.4, the lower limit of normal vision for 4-5-year-old children is 0.5, and the lower limit of normal vision for 6-7-year-old children and above is 0.7. If a child's vision is lower than the normal lower limit of children of the same age, or the difference between the vision of both eyes exceeds 2 lines, it means that there is something wrong with the child's vision and he should go to the hospital for examination in time. However, vision is only one indicator of visual function. It also includes stereoscopic vision, eye position, etc. When these problems exist, even if the vision is normal, it is impossible to have the best visual quality. Therefore, parents should also pay attention to whether their children’s eye position is skewed. Normally, if your child says that he cannot see the blackboard clearly when sitting in the back row of the classroom, or that he cannot see things as clearly as before, or that he likes to squint, rub his eyes, frown, or tilt his head to look at things; or that his eyelids feel heavy, he suffers from eye pain and headache, his eyes become biased toward the outside, he often reads and writes in a row, or he blinks frequently, etc., you should be wary of the possibility of myopia and go to the hospital for a check-up in time.

4. Many vision problems are caused by bad habits, such as: watching TV, computer, mobile phone, playing games for a long time, more than 1 hour continuously without rest; staying up late and lack of sleep; incorrect reading and writing posture, eyes too close to the book, or reading in bed or in the car; reading and writing in low light or strong light, incorrect placement of the desk lamp; few outdoor activities every day, unbalanced nutrition, frequent eating of sweets and fast food, too little intake of fresh vegetables and fruits, etc. These bad behaviors and habits may affect children's vision and lead to myopia.
