What to do if your baby has a stuffy nose in the middle of the night? Symptomatic treatment works quickly

If your baby has a stuffy nose in the middle of the night, it will seriously affect the quality of his sleep, and in severe cases he will even cry. Faced with this phenomenon, mothers must treat the symptoms and not proceed blindly. If the nasal congestion is caused by a cold, you can apply a hot towel on it; if it is rhinitis, you must go to the hospital for professional treatment in time.

It is not uncommon for babies to have a stuffy nose when sleeping at night. But this is no small problem. For different types of nasal congestion, mothers can adopt different quick treatment methods. The specific types of nasal congestion and treatment methods are as follows. If the baby has a stuffy nose due to a cold, mothers can use a warm, wet towel to place on the baby's nose as a hot compress. Be careful not to make the towel too hot to avoid scalding the baby's skin. You can apply hot compress twice a day, each time for about 15 minutes.

Acute sinusitis and nasal congestion. If your baby accidentally suffers from this disease, you must actively treat it. In case of acute sinusitis, mothers should take their babies to the ENT department for examination immediately. According to the doctor's instructions, they should choose antibiotics for their babies reasonably to completely cure sinusitis and avoid recurrence of the disease.

If the baby's nasal congestion is very severe, mothers can use 0.5% ephedrine furacillin drops for the baby according to the doctor's instructions, but this drug must be used with caution. You should apply one drop to each nostril 10 to 15 minutes before feeding, and your nose will be unblocked after a few minutes. However, ephedrine can have side effects on children, so it should not be used for a long time or in excess to avoid causing atrophic rhinitis and affecting the sense of smell.

When the nasal crust is blocked, parents should promptly clean the foreign objects in the baby's nasal cavity. If there is a lot of secretion, a nasal aspirator can be used to clean it. When removing nasal crusts, parents must not use their hands to pick the baby's nose, as this can easily damage the baby's nasal mucosa and cause bleeding or infection. If there is a foreign object blocking the breathing, parents can carefully observe their child's breathing. If you find that one side of your child's nose is blocked, or if he or she has inexplicable purulent nasal discharge with a foul odor, you must take your baby to the hospital immediately for a detailed examination.
