Symptoms of delayed physical development in infants

Symptoms of delayed physical development in infants

Physical retardation is a manifestation of childhood developmental disorder, that is, children's growth and development characteristics are not obvious at different growth stages, and they have obvious manifestations of intellectual disability, such as short height, unclear secondary sexual characteristics, etc. Children need to be taken to the hospital for comprehensive testing.

1. Children's growth and development is a continuous, gradual and uneven process that follows certain rules. Children's age is generally divided into seven stages, namely fetal period, neonatal period, infancy, early childhood, preschool period, school age and adolescence. The growth and development of children at each stage has its own particularities.

2. Neonatal period: from the time the umbilical cord is tied after the fetus is delivered to 28 days ago. This period is included in infancy and is a special stage of infancy. The average height at birth is 50 cm.

3. Infancy: from birth to before 1 year old. It is a year of extremely vigorous growth and development, and the first accelerated period of height growth after birth. During this year, the height increases by about 25 cm, which means that the height is about 75 cm at the age of one.

4. Early childhood: from 1 year old to before 3 years old. Growth and development during this period is slightly slower than before, and the height increases by 10-12 cm in the second year after birth, which means that the height is about 87 cm at the age of 2.

5. After the age of 2 and before puberty, height increases by 6-7 cm each year.

6. Adolescence: It is the second accelerated period of height growth. The peak height growth of boys is about 2 years later than that of girls, but the annual height growth value is greater than that of girls. Therefore, in terms of final height, boys are generally taller than girls. During this period, height can increase by 20-25 cm.

7. If your child's growth rate deviates from the normal range at a certain stage, it is necessary to consult an endocrinologist in time to find out the cause and provide timely diagnosis and treatment.
