Why is the baby's stool green?

Why is the baby's stool green?

What I want to tell you today is why infants’ stools are green. The defecation problem of newborns has always been a concern for adults, and the amount and frequency of infants’ stools are also of concern to adults. Changes in baby's stool color are closely related to diet, so when the stool color is abnormal, parents can check whether there is a problem with the diet that day. Find out the cause and then prescribe the right medicine.

1. The amount of feces is small, the frequency is high, and it is green and mucous. This situation is often caused by insufficient feeding, and this type of stool is also called "hunger stool". As long as the baby is fed enough, the bowel movements will return to normal.

2. There is a lot of foam in the stool, which is dark brown and watery with a distinct sour smell. This may be caused by the baby's excessive intake of starchy foods, such as rice porridge, infant cakes, etc., which leads to indigestion of sugars in the food. If the possibility of intestinal infection in the child is ruled out, then parents should adjust the child's diet structure.

3. The water content in the feces increases and becomes soup-like, the water is separated from the feces, and the frequency and amount of bowel movements increase. This is a pathological manifestation, which is often seen in diseases such as enteritis and autumn diarrhea. Losing a large amount of water and electrolytes can cause dehydration or electrolyte imbalance in children, and the child should be taken to the hospital immediately.

4. The stool is loose, yellow-green and contains mucus, and sometimes resembles tofu dregs. This may be fungal enteritis. Babies with fungal enteritis may also suffer from thrush. If the child has the above symptoms, he needs to go to the hospital for treatment.

5. The stool smells like rotten eggs. This indicates that the child is consuming too much protein or is having protein poor digestion. You should pay attention to whether the milk concentration is too high or whether the baby is eating too much. You can dilute the milk appropriately or limit the amount of milk for 1-2 days. If you have already added egg yolks, fish and other complementary foods to your child, you may consider temporarily stopping adding such complementary foods and gradually adding complementary foods after your child's bowel movements return to normal. You can also give your child a multivitamin to help him digest it.

The above is the relevant content about young children’s bowel movement problems. I hope it can help everyone. Family members should also pay attention to dietary issues. Babies’ immunity is not as good as that of adults, so they must pay special attention to diet. Breastfeeding mothers should also avoid eating too much raw, cold, and spicy food, as this can have a significant impact on the color of the fetus' stool. I wish every expectant mother and baby grow up healthy!
