Is a child's fever of 40 degrees dangerous?

Is a child's fever of 40 degrees dangerous?

Children's high fever must not exceed 40 degrees. If it exceeds 40 degrees, it may be accompanied by acute meningitis or sepsis. The most easily overlooked thing is a child having a high fever at night. It is best to measure the temperature once an hour at night. If the cooling patch or medicine does not have a good effect, go to the hospital in time. Children have relatively weak resistance, and the organs of children under one year old are not fully developed, so they need more observation.

Is a fever of 40 degrees dangerous for a child?

If a child's fever exceeds 40 degrees, there is a higher possibility that he or she may have bacterial meningitis or sepsis, so you should be particularly alert. The maximum high temperature that brain cells can tolerate is 41.7℃. When the temperature exceeds this, the cell proteins will deteriorate due to high temperature, causing irreversible damage. This extreme high temperature is rarely accompanied by disease. Clinically, the only condition that can reach such a high temperature is an allergy to anesthesia, which can cause a malignant fever. Never let your child have a fever of this temperature.

How to deal with a child's fever

1. Wipe your whole body with warm water. When your baby has a fever, you can undress him and wipe his whole body with a warm towel at about 37 degrees. On the one hand, this can allow the baby's blood vessels to expand and dissipate heat; on the other hand, the water on the body surface will also absorb heat when it evaporates. This is very effective in cooling down the baby.

2. Reduce excess clothing. If your child sweats when he or she has a fever, you should take off the baby's clothes and wipe off the sweat. When a child has a fever, the heat needs to be dissipated, so the child should wear less clothing, but the premise is that the child should not catch a cold.

3. Cooling patch is also a good choice. For younger babies, it should be used under the guidance of a physician. Using a cooling patch can effectively take away excess heat and is very helpful in reducing your baby's fever.

A child's fever can be serious or minor. If the fever is not very high, you can take some physical cooling measures and I believe it can be well controlled. However, if the fever is very severe, you need to go to the hospital for examination and treatment. If fever is not treated in time, it will cause many sequelae and affect the baby's health.
