Scarlet fever is highly contagious. Clinically, the most significant features of this disease are fever, rash and pharyngitis. Patients with scarlet fever should pay special attention to their diet. Many foods cannot be eaten, especially irritating foods, as well as spicy, sweet and salty foods. 1) Avoid irritating foods. Irritating foods are foods that easily promote fire and produce phlegm. Eating irritating foods will increase body temperature, aggravate the rash, and worsen the condition. Such foods include dog meat, mutton, bird meat, rooster meat, black fish, crucian carp, conger eel, shrimp, crab, coriander, pumpkin, etc. (2) Avoid spicy foods. Spicy foods also increase fire and directly stimulate the throat and tonsils, which can increase pain. Such foods include chili peppers, hot sauce, hot oil, mustard, pickled mustard, curry, ginger, green onions, five-spice powder, etc. (3) Avoid overly sweet or salty foods. Eating too much overly sweet foods can increase body heat and lead to indigestion and loss of appetite, such as chocolate, sugar balls, fruit candies, milk candies, overly sweet syrups, undiluted honey, etc. Overly salty foods such as salted fish, pickled vegetables, pickled meat, and roasted lobster candies can irritate the throat, increase mucus secretion, and worsen the condition. (4) Avoid foods that stimulate the nervous system. Strong tea, coffee, and alcohol can stimulate the nervous system and make it excited. Scarlet fever patients have high fever and their nervous systems must remain quiet. Eating the above foods will increase excitability and make the patient irritable. (5) Avoid vegetables and fruits with long fibers. Children with scarlet fever have congestion and swelling in the throat, which makes swallowing difficult. In addition, due to high fever, they often have poor digestion. Therefore, they should avoid eating vegetables and fruits with long fibers, such as bamboo shoots, hairy bamboo shoots, leeks, bean sprouts, garlic sprouts, pineapples, onions, snow mustard, water spinach, sweet potatoes, taro, etc. (6) Avoid cold drinks. Children with high fever should be replenished with water, but it is better to drink warm water. Avoid drinking all kinds of frozen drinks, such as ice cream, ice bricks, frozen orange juice, frozen Sprite, popsicles, ice cream and frozen boiled water. Although cold food can make people happy for a while, it is harmful to the stomach, leading to loss of appetite and abnormal digestion. (7) Avoid hot fruits. Longan pulp, lychee, jujube, raisin, orange, etc. are warm in nature and can easily cause internal heat after eating. Avoid eating them during high fever. (8) Avoid fried or grilled foods. Foods that have been fried, such as fried pork chops, fried steak, sesame balls, fried dough sticks, roast duck, roast lamb, and roast fish fillets, are not to be eaten. First, the skin of fried or grilled foods is hard, which is not good for the throat; second, grilled foods are easy to catch fire, which can easily lead to increased fever. |
