Prevention and treatment of scarlet fever: prevention and treatment to reduce harm

If a child contracts scarlet fever, he or she will have symptoms of fever and rash. This is an acute infectious respiratory disease. The most important thing for the prevention and treatment of scarlet fever is isolation, control of the source of infection, and timely use of antibiotics. The most common treatment is penicillin.

1. Prevention of scarlet fever

(I) Manage the source of infection: patients and carriers should be isolated for 6 to 7 days. Some people advocate the use of penicillin for 2 days, which can make the throat swab culture of about 95% of patients turn negative, and they can be discharged from the hospital at that time. When a patient is found in a children's institution or a recruit unit, he or she should be quarantined until the last patient has been ill for 1 week. If the throat swab culture continues to be positive, the isolation period should be extended.

(B) Cut off the transmission route: During the epidemic period, children should avoid going to public places, and housing should be well ventilated. Suspected patients with scarlet fever, pharyngitis and carriers should be isolated and treated.

(III) Protecting susceptible persons: For children's institutions, military units or other necessary groups, drug prevention may be used as appropriate, such as benzathine penicillin (Penicillin G Benzathine), 600,000 to 900,000 μ for children and 1.2 million μ for adults, which can protect for 30 days, or sulfadiazine 1 gram per day or sulfadoxinum 0.5 gram per week.

2. Western medicine treatment of scarlet fever

If a baby has scarlet fever, antibiotic treatment must be used as soon as possible. Early injection of sufficient penicillin can shorten the course of the disease and speed up recovery. At present, due to the widespread use of penicillin, the number of babies with mild symptoms after becoming ill has increased significantly. Generally, the rash will subside and the body temperature will gradually drop 1 to 2 days after the injection of penicillin. However, you cannot stop taking the medication at will. You need to follow the doctor's instructions and continue taking the medication for 1 week until the symptoms completely disappear and the redness and swelling of the throat subsides. Do not treat it as a common cold. Otherwise, the hemolytic streptococci in the body will not be completely eliminated, which will cause many serious complications.

Sick babies must rest in bed, drink plenty of boiled water, and eat light and easily digestible food, such as winter melon soup. Take 500 grams of fresh winter melon and a little salt, cut the winter melon into shreds, put it in a pot, add water and simmer the soup over low heat. After the soup is ready, add a little salt. It is suitable for babies with short and red urine and thirst; take an appropriate amount of white radish, wash it and cut it into shreds. Add scallion oil, sugar and salt to the shredded white radish as appropriate and mix well. This is suitable for babies with poor appetite after a fever. Babies with obvious bayberry tongue can take ginseng, wheat and mung bean porridge. The method is to take 15 grams of Adenophora radix, 10 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, 500 grams of mung bean, 50-100 grams of polished rice, then decoct Adenophora radix and Ophiopogon japonicus in water, take 500 ml of juice, and simmer porridge with mung bean and polished rice in the usual way.
