Why are baby's lips purple?

Babies are the apple of their parents' eyes, so parents will be extremely concerned if their babies have some adverse reactions. However, babies will also encounter various problems during infancy. So what happens when the baby's lips turn purple?

1. It may be due to the cold that the lips are slightly purple. Parents can observe whether the baby is not wearing enough clothes or kicks off the quilt at night. Add appropriate amount of clothing.

2. It may be caused by ischemia and hypoxia in the baby. Mom and dad can give the baby appropriate supplements.

3. The baby may have heart problems. Of course, parents don’t need to worry too much, as babies are not fully developed. If it is just a mild purple, it will recover on its own before the baby is three years old. However, if the blue lips persist, it is recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible to find out the cause.

4. There is mucus or some blockage in the nasal cavity, so the lips will turn purple. Generally speaking, if the lips turn purple due to nasal congestion, the problem will disappear and be solved as long as the child starts crying.

5. The respiratory tract is blocked, so oxygen cannot enter the lungs of the newborn normally, thus causing hypoxia. The direct manifestation is purple lips. Such respiratory obstruction is usually closely related to congenital tracheal stenosis and macroglossia.

4. Immature respiratory system or problems such as intracranial hemorrhage during delivery may cause the newborn to have purple lips for a short period of time.

6. Infection. Because newborns have congenital lung hypoplasia, it is easy for them to inhale milk into their lungs while feeding, which can cause terrible lung inflammation, resulting in breathing difficulties and aggravating the purple lips problem. This easily explains why many infants and young children suddenly turn purple while drinking milk, or are unable to cough and look uncomfortable. And this is also the most dangerous time.
