What to do if your child has canine teeth? Here are three things you should know

It is quite normal for children to have canine teeth. Most people think it is cute and has many benefits, such as being able to tear food very well. However, there are also some disadvantages. The most obvious one is that it affects the appearance. The other is that it is easy to form stones. So what should we do?

1. The growth of canine teeth is influenced by both congenital and acquired factors. Acquired factors account for a large proportion. The upper and lower canines are the last teeth to erupt in the whole mouth. If the jaw is not long enough, the adjacent teeth that grow first will occupy the gap between the canines, and the canines will have to be squeezed out from the sides, thus forming canine teeth.

2. If the deciduous canines are lost early due to caries, trauma, etc., and the successor permanent canines have not yet erupted, but the adjacent permanent incisors and first canines have already erupted, they will move towards the gap left after the deciduous canines fell off, making the gap smaller or even completely occupying it. In this way, when the permanent canines erupt again, they will have to grow from the higher part of the lip side and become canine teeth.

3. People think canine teeth are cute, but since canine teeth protrude outside the teeth and there is no bite relationship, it affects eating. In addition, misaligned teeth are difficult to clean, and plaque and tartar are easily accumulated on the tooth surface, causing gingivitis. Therefore, prevention and treatment of misaligned canine teeth are still necessary. The most direct and effective way to treat canine teeth is with braces. Doctors recommend that boys have their teeth corrected after the age of 13 and girls after the age of 11.
