In fact, the blood pressure values ​​of 12-year-old children are not much different from those of adults. Blood pressure values ​​between 90-140 are normal. If the blood pressure is lower or higher than that, you should pay attention, as it may be that the body has high blood pressure or low blood pressure. Whether it is high blood pressure or low blood pressure, it poses a great threat to the health of the body and requires timely and appropriate conditioning of the body.

1. Normal blood pressure in children

Children's arterial blood pressure is more than 2 standard deviations higher than the mean blood pressure of the age group, or is above 95% of the blood pressure curve distributed in percentage for the age group, which can be diagnosed as hypertension. The blood pressure of preschool children should be lower than 110/70 mmHg, and that of school-age children should be lower than 120/80 mmHg. Any value greater than this can be considered high blood pressure.

2. Normal heart rate range for children at different ages

The normal heart rate and respiration values ​​of children of different ages are as follows: Newborn's respiration: 40-50 times/minute, pulse: 120-140 times/minute; under 1 year old's respiration: 30-40 times/minute, pulse: 110-130 times/minute; 2-3 years old's respiration: 25-30 times/minute, pulse: 100-120 times/minute; 4-7 years old's respiration: 20-25 times/minute, pulse: 80-100 times/minute; 8-12 years old's respiration: 18-20 times/minute, pulse: 70-90 times/minute.

Neonatal period: about 140 times; 0-12 months: 120-140 times. 1-2 years old: 110-120 times. 3-4 years old: 100-110 times. 5-7 years old: 90-100 times. 8-10 years old: 80-90 times. 11-14 years: 70-80 times.

How to measure blood pressure in children

1. Choose a child-specific cuff according to the child's age. The width of the cuff is 1/2 to 1/3 of the length of the upper arm. School-age children generally use a 6 cm or 7 cm wide cuff, which can be connected to an adult desktop blood pressure monitor.

2. Let the child calm down one hour before measuring blood pressure, avoid strenuous exercise, no food or drink, and empty the bladder.

3. When measuring blood pressure, sit down, tie the cuff around your right upper arm, keep the right upper arm and the blood pressure gauge at the same level as your heart, and abduct your arm 45 degrees. The lower edge of the cuff should be 2 cm above the elbow joint and should not be too tight or too loose.

4. Place the stethoscope on the elbow artery, inflate the cuff until the mercury column reaches the height where the arterial pulsation disappears, then raise it by 20 to 30 mm, and then slowly deflate. The speed at which the mercury column descends should be 2 mm/s.

5. The first sound you hear is the systolic pressure. When the sound suddenly becomes low, it is the diastolic pressure. In order to rule out abnormal blood pressure caused by stress, measure the child's blood pressure three times in a row, and take the average of the last two times as the child's blood pressure. Note that you should wait for 1 minute after each measurement, raise your upper arm for 5 to 6 seconds, and then do the next measurement.

Methods for measuring heart rate in children

1. Choose the most convenient part

When measuring the pulse, we often choose the superficial large arteries of the body. The most convenient and easiest to feel is the radial artery on the thumb side of the palm side of the wrist, which is close to the body surface. Secondly, you can also touch the temporal artery near the external auditory canal or the carotid arteries on both sides of the neck.

2. Take the right approach

When measuring the pulse, parents should gently hold the child's wrist with their fingers, and place their index and middle fingers on the thumb side under the horizontal lines of the child's wrist skin. At this time, they can feel the impact of the arterial pulsation. A normal pulse beats with a regular rhythm, even strength, and elasticity in the fingers.

3. Observe pulse rate, rhythm and strength

When measuring the pulse, measure the number of pulse beats per minute, and pay attention to whether the pulse beats regularly, whether it is of varying speeds, strengths, or weakness. When the fever is high, it is normal for the pulse to beat fast and strong. When the condition is serious, the pulse is weak and sometimes even unclear. If the pulse beats unevenly, sometimes fast and sometimes slow, with long intervals between beats, there may be a disease in the body.

The test must be done when the child is quiet and in a comfortable position, preferably when the child is soundly asleep. After activity, you should rest for about 15 minutes before measuring your pulse rate again to avoid affecting the accuracy of your pulse rate.

4. Notes

It is not advisable to use the thumb for measurement, as the thumb itself has a perceptible arterial pulsation, which can easily be confused with the radial artery pulse, creating a false impression. Because children's blood vessels are small, the pressure should not be too great when touching, and the standard is to be able to feel the pulse. If you find that your pulse rate is increasing or decreasing, or your pulse rhythm is irregular, you should go to the hospital and see a doctor immediately. If a child's pulse is found to be irregular, it should be compared with the heart rate in order to obtain an accurate diagnosis. For chubby children under 1 year old, it is best to put your hand on his chest to test the heart rate, so that you can easily feel the arterial pulse. A rapid pulse for a long time may lead to heart failure.
