Compared with adults, the blood pressure of young children is lower as they are younger. For infants, a systolic blood pressure of 18.7 kPa (140 mmHg) or below is normal. Currently, primary hypertension is relatively rare in children, but it has been on the rise recently, so parents must pay attention to various examinations of their babies and keep abreast of their physical conditions. What is the normal range of blood pressure for newborns? The normal blood pressure value for children varies with age. The younger the age, the lower the blood pressure. Blood pressure is currently considered to be 20 mmHg higher than the systolic blood pressure (high pressure) or diastolic blood pressure (low pressure) of the same age group. For the convenience of clinical application, blood pressure values are generally considered to be >90/60 mmHg in newborns and >110/70 mmHg in preschool children. If the blood pressure in school-age children is >120/80 mmHg, infautile hypertension should be considered. The blood pressure in the lower limbs is 10 to 20 mmHg higher than that in the upper limbs. Primary hypertension is rare in children, accounting for 20% to 30%, but has been on the rise in recent years; secondary hypertension is more common, accounting for 65% to 80%. Among secondary hypertension in children, kidney disease accounts for 79%, followed by cardiovascular disease, endocrine disease, nervous system disease and poisoning. Normal blood pressure for infants is: (1) Normal blood pressure: Systolic blood pressure is 18.7 kPa (140 mmHg) or below, diastolic blood pressure is 12.0 kPa (90 mmHg) or below, and it is not hypotension. It should be considered normal blood pressure. (2) Borderline hypertension: systolic blood pressure between 18.8 and 21.2 kPa (141 to 159 mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure between 12.1 and 12.5 kPa (91 to 95 mmHg) (3) Confirmed hypertension: systolic blood pressure reaches or exceeds 21.3 kPa (160 mmHg) and diastolic blood pressure reaches or exceeds 12.7 kPa (95 mmHg) |
