The difference between diaper rash and eczema lies in their different causes. Eczema is a common skin allergy while diaper rash is an inflammation of the buttocks. Both require good care. If the child has eczema, the mother should pay attention to the baby's feeding. If the child has diaper rash, the diaper must be changed in time. (1) Infant eczema Infant eczema is a common allergic skin inflammation, which is more common in children who are fed with milk. This is related to allergic constitution, which has both genetic factors as internal causes and external factors as inducements. For example, if both parents have allergies, there is about a 70% chance that their children will have allergies, while if one parent is prone to allergies, there is a 50% chance that the child will also have allergies. This type of child should never be fed milk before breastfeeding is fully established. Even only 30 ml of milk can produce antibodies (IgA) and cause allergies in the future. β-lactoglobulin in milk is the culprit for cow's milk protein allergy. External factors include certain foods, ambient temperature, humidity, sunlight, ultraviolet rays, etc. Improper care such as alkaline soaps, excessive nutrition, abnormal fermentation in the intestines, etc. can all be triggers. When the disease first occurs, a small red rash usually appears on the cheeks, which can quickly spread to the forehead, neck, chest, etc. The small red rash can also turn into small blisters, which will break, ooze water and finally form yellow scabs. After exudation, the redness and swelling gradually lighten and enter the non-acute stage with only papules. Infant eczema can be mild or severe, and comes and goes repeatedly. During an acute attack, the child suffers from unbearable itching, often becomes irritable and cries, which affects their appetite and rest. In severe cases, bacterial infections may occur, which is a real headache for adults. The best way to prevent baby eczema is to exclusively breastfeed. When a baby is born, even if breast milk has not yet come in, do not rush to add milk. Be patient and wait for the breast milk to be secreted. This will not affect the baby's growth. Once a baby suffers from eczema, parents must be extra patient in caring for and feeding the baby. If milk allergy is suspected, the baby can be fed soy milk instead, or the milk can be heated and boiled and then waited for a few minutes to allow the protein to denature and reduce allergies. In daily life care, overheating should be avoided and the chance of sweating should be reduced. Underwear should be made of pure cotton to reduce the irritation of chemical fiber and wool fabrics. Wash your face with warm water and do not use soap when bathing to reduce skin pain and itching. Avoid babies scratching the affected area to prevent secondary infection. Generally, eczema will gradually improve after adding complementary foods, and most of it will disappear around one year old. Be extra careful when adding egg yolks, fish and shrimp to children with allergies, and closely observe the child's reaction after eating. The best practice is to wait until 7 months after the child's intestinal barrier function is more complete before adding such foods. (ii) Diaper rash Diaper rash is a common skin problem among infants. It is an inflammation of the infant's buttocks, which manifests as red buttocks and red spotted rashes on the skin. Even festering and leaking water. The child likes to cry, act restless, irritable, and cannot sleep well. Diaper rash is caused by diapers being contaminated by feces and urine, which decompose and produce ammonia, which irritates and damages the skin. Failure to change diapers in time is one of the main causes of illness. Another reason is that children’s skin is delicate and easily allergic to detergents and softeners. When reusing diapers, be sure to rinse them several times with clean water after washing, and scald or boil them regularly. The occurrence of diaper rash is also related to the type of diapers and the number of changes. Because diapers of the right size are less likely to leak from the side, the closed state of the skin will cause the skin's pH value to increase. Some parents do not pay attention to changing them in time, which will lead to diaper rash over time. |
