What is the cause of peeling skin on children's fingers? How to deal with it

Whether it is a child or an adult, they may experience peeling of the fingers. There are many factors that cause this condition. Parents don’t need to panic if their children’s fingers start to peel. They need to find out the cause so that they can better treat it.

Most children may only have mild peeling of their fingers and toes without any inflammation. This situation can be said to be normal and is called "physiological desquamation." Physiological desquamation is caused by children's rapid metabolism. Generally, it does not require special treatment. It has obvious seasonality and tends to occur in spring and autumn. For most children, it will stop after a period of time, while for some children, it may last relatively longer, ranging from a few weeks to one or two months.

Peeling of fingers mostly occurs in autumn or winter, which is related to children's poor resistance.

Children who are picky eaters have not developed the habit of eating fruits and vegetables, and have long-term insufficient vitamin intake. In addition, infants and young children like to explore the unknown world with their hands. Their delicate skin cannot adapt to changes in temperature and humidity. The evaporation of skin moisture is too rapid, causing shrinkage, and the nail bed skin and nails are too tightly adhered, making it impossible for the skin to naturally separate from the root of the nail. These combined factors will cause hangnails, peeling and other skin lesions on the hands of children.

It is not uncommon for children to have peeling on their hands. Some children only have slight peeling on the front ends of one or two fingers, while some children have peeling on the palms of both hands and the palms of the feet, and it may even spread to the limbs. When parents notice their children’s hands peeling, they think it means their children are lacking certain vitamins, so they want to give their children vitamin supplements. Doctors warn that blindly taking vitamins in excess can cause harm to the body. In fact, peeling may be caused by a variety of reasons and should be treated accordingly.
