When is it appropriate for babies to use pillows?

Adults use pillows when they sleep, but for babies, you need to be careful when using pillows. Generally, they are not suitable for babies under three months old, but babies after three months can use pillows that are two or three centimeters high.

1. Babies under 3 months old do not need to sleep with pillows, because the spine of a newborn baby is straight and the natural curvature has not yet formed. When lying flat, the back and the back of the head are on the same plane, and the shoulders and head are basically the same width. Therefore, there is no need to use a pillow to raise the head whether lying on your back or on your side. To prevent vomiting, you can slightly raise the upper body.

After 2 or 3 months, the baby's spine begins to bend, the neck bends forward, and the chest gradually bends backward. Moreover, compared with the head and the body, the body grows much faster than the head, and the shoulders gradually become much wider than the head. At this time, the baby's sleeping pillow can slightly raise the head, and still keep the head, neck and chest on the same plane, so that the baby can sleep comfortably. At the same time, it is also easy for the head to turn on the pillow, and the head and shoulders remain balanced. Proper use of pillows is beneficial to the growth and development of babies.

3. A baby pillow should be 3 cm high, 15 cm wide and 30 cm long. A pillow that is too high will not only make sleeping uncomfortable, but also easily cause the baby to have a hunchback. The pillow core should have an appropriate hardness and should be soft and non-deformable. The pillow core is usually made of millet, tea leaves dried after drinking, silkworm droppings, duck down, dry cypress leaves, etc. The pillow core is made of cotton cloth and covered with a cloth pillowcase, which should be changed and washed frequently. Newborns are generally not given pillows. After six months old, children can use a 3 cm pillow.
